Description
(No Model.) Q
I. A. BROWN.
INSULATING THIMBLE- No. 515,321. Patented Feb. 27, 1894.
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC A. BROIVN, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
INSULATING-THIMBLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,321, dated February 27, 1894.
Application filed April 5, 1893. Serial No: 469,198- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, ISAAC A. BROWN, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas, in the State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Insulating-Thimbles, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to devices for insulatin g the head or handle portion of the shank or shaft used in manipulating the electric current in electric cars and other places as a new article of manufacture.
My object is to produce a thimble or cot, which is adapted to be removably placed upon the handle or shank used in operating electric currents; cheap and durable in its construction, efiiective in its operation and of great utility.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described and which are specifically setforth in the claim hereunto annexed.
It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which Figure 1, is a view of the thimble or cot placed upon the shank of a device used in electric cars, for turning on and off the electric current. Fig. 2, is a View of the cot or thimble complete, partially broken away. Fig. 3, is an isometrical elevation of the cot or thimble complete, removed.
A, is the thimble constructed of rubber, asbestus or any other non-conducting material, preferably cylindrical in form as shown and diminished in size near its open end, as at a, and provided with an enlargement or thickened portion bat or near its closed end for the purpose of imparting strength thereto.
It will be observed that by diminishing the size near its open end, it will allow me to force the thimble over the head and a tension will be produced upon its lower end to hold it thereon. I also preferably construct it a little thicker at its inner and closed end, as shown at c, so as to give it greater strength at, the point where it is most used, where the greatest strain comes.
What I claim as myinvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein described insulating thimble constructed of insulating material, having its closed end increased in thickness, reduced in size near its open end and increased in thickness at or near its open end, substantially as described for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of March, 1893.
ISAAC A. BROWN.
In presence of JAMES AUSTIN, Jr., P. S. GARRAGHAHN.
