HINGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,856, dated February 13, 1894.

Be it known that I, GODERIED LAUBE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Huron, in the county of Beadle andState of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hinges,of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

` This invention has relation to door hinges, and is particularly adapted and designed to be employed on vestibule and outer doors of a house or building; and thepinvention con' sists in the novel arrangement of parts to be more particularly hereinafter described and specifically pointed out in the claims.

The invention broadly consists in a door hinge'carrying a cleaning heel on the movable portion of the hinge, and having the permanent portion thereof so designed as to a1- low the heel free movement and the same to coincide when the door is in a closed position.

The object of the invention is to construct a door hinge that will effectually prevent the clogging of the door frame corners with snow and ice, furthermore to prevent the accumulation of dust, &c., between the( jamb of the door and the door proper.v

Referring to' the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views:-Figure 1 is a front elevation of a door with my improved hinge attached thereto. Fig. 2:- is an enlarged horizontal sectional view. Fig. 3:-is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the door and jamb, showing the door in a closed position. Fig. 4:- is a similarV view repre senting the door open. Fig. 5:- is a detail top view of the hinge in an open position.

In these drawings,-A, represents the door 1ro proper.; B,the doorjamb; C, the hinge, D, the movable portion thereof, E, the permanent portion of the same; F, represents the segmental cleaning heel attached to the movable port-ion D; G, the cavity formed on the per-A manent portion of the hinge to correspond with the segmental cleaning heel F.

Operation: It will be obvious that when the door is closed the segmental cleaning heel will pass into the cavity and force out any obstruction that may have accumulated therein; it being a great annoyance in a cold climate to have snow and ice wedged in at the heel of the door.

For the purpose of clearly illustrating my invention I have shown this particular design, yet various changes may be made in the detailed construction of the cleaning heel without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a door hinge consisting of two see tions, the movable section thereof carrying a 65 cleaning heel, and the permanent portion cut away to correspond with said heel so as to allow a free movement of the door, substantially as described. f

2. A hinge provided with a cleaning heel 7o piece, substantially as described.
