APPARATUS FOR HEATING AIR FOR INHALERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,022, dated February 6, 1894.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. MOLEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Heating and Medicating Air; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to means for heating and medicating air, and is an improved method of heating air over that shown by my Letters Patentissued Jan nary 3,1893, No. 489,029, for an apparatus for administering heated and medicated air.
In the device for heating the air in the above mentioned apparatus, I heat the air by introducing it into a heated chamber B. In the device on which I now claim a patent, I heat the air by passing it through a coiled pipe inside of a heated chamber.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an upright sectional view of the heater, and Fig. 2 a plan view on line X, X of Fig. 1.
A is the heater; B, the base upon which it rests. It is provided with three walls or coverings, viz: 1 is an outer wall of copper. 1 is an inner wall or filling of asbestus, and 1", which is a zinc or tin wall on the inside forming the wall of the chamber in which is located the coiled pipe 6, which entersthe heater at or near its top as 6' where it is attached to a tube leading from an air reservoir. After coiling downward through the heater it rests upon and enters a hollow box 4, which is provided with tubes 5, 5, 5, 5, leading out through the walls of the heater, whereby the air may be conveyed to the medicating chamber, or to the air passages of the body.

7 is a ventilator in the top of the heater to regulate the degree of heat and a vent for the smoke. It is provided with a damper 8, and a cover 9, for use when the vent is not needed.
If more intense heat be required, the coiled pipe may be surrounded by a tube placed inside of the heating chamber, and the heat from the lamp directed through the tube.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an apparatus for heating and medicating air, the combination of a heater A, having walls 1, 1', 1", the inner wall being asbestus, chamber 2 for receiving a lamp, coiled pipe 6, within the heater adapted to be secured to a tube conducting air from an air compressor, box I, connected to the other end of the coiled pipe within the heater, with pipes 5, 5 leading from the box 4 to outside of heater, and the ventilator 7, provided with the damper 8, as and for the purpose set forth.
