APPARATUS FOR DISPENSING SODA-WATER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 512,989, dated January 16, 1894. I

To ail whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADAM OHARA, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain'newand useful Improvements in Apparatus for Dispensing Soda-Water; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for dispensing soda water; and it consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.

The object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for dispensing soda water,having an open space at the lower front portion and openings leading into said open space through which the cooks of the sirup jars pass, with a slide or drawer to which a metal-slab carrying the handles for operating the cooks is hinged, said slide or drawer supporting the sirup jars so that they can be readily removed. 7

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a soda water fountain with my improvements applied thereto, the general appearance being similar to that shown in my prior patent, No. 497,201, dated May 9, 1893.

Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views. Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the sirup jar and part of the apparatus supporting the same withdrawn. Fig. 5 is a plan view partly in section. Fig. 6 is a sectional view of amodification, upright sirup jars being employed in this instance; and Figs. 7 and 8 are sectional Views showing a modified form of the hinged slab.

Arranged across the front part of the ap- C designates a drawerhavinga bottom constructed to provide a dead-air space a, and within this drawer are placed'the sirup jars D, the horizontal jars having openings for filling the same and openings d inwhich are secured cocks D, said cocks having turning plugs with projecting ends grooved transversely forengagement with an interlocking block d attached to the stem of the handle E. The doublebottom is provided with funnels f, and immediately above each funnel the cool D of one of the sirup jars will be located. The lower front portion of the sirup jars are cut away so as to provide a space for the cock D. Y

To the base portion of the drawer C is hinged or otherwise connected a metal slab F which'lforms the lower front part of the apparatus and carries the handles E, and this slab is held in place by turn-buttonsf the stems of which are bent at right angles to engage with ledges or inwardly projecting poptions formed on or attached to the side pieces of the drawer. Spring catches may also be provided for engaging notches in the bottom of the drawer, as shown in my prior patent hereinbefore referred to.

In' Figs. 7 and 8 I have shown a modification of my improvement which consists in providing the slab F with a portion F which extends atright angles therewith and is provided with funnels through which the sirups pass from the cooks D, and in Fig. 6 the device is further modified inasmuch as it permits the use of vertical instead of horizontal jars.

A soda water apparatus constructed as hereinbefore described possesses many advantages, among which may be mentioned IOO that the metal slab F may be lowered either to have access to the cocks attached to the jars or for the purpose of ascertaining the amount of sirup in each of the jars. The drawer or slide can be fully removed for the purpose of cleaning that part of the apparatus and partially removed for refilling and replacing t-he jars. The double bottom to the drawer or slide provides a dead-air space to prevent condensation beneaththe sirup jars. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In an apparatus for dispensing soda water, the combination, of the sirup jars provided with cocks, and a removable receptacle supporting the same consisting of a slide or drawer the base portion of which has hinged thereto a metal-slab forming the lower front part of the apparatus and carrying thehandles which operate the cooks attached to the sirup jars, substantially as shown,-and for the purpose set forth.

2. In an apparatus for dispensing soda water, the combination with the sirup jars carrying cocks of a removable slide or drawer which supports the handles for operating the cocks carried by the sirup jars, the part of the slide which carries the handles being hinged or pivotally connected to the base of theslide or drawer, andsaid slide or drawer having a double bottom upon the upper one of which the sirup jars rest, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.'

3. An apparatus for dispensing soda water, having a horizontal space beneath the ice chamber and a slide or drawer for the reception of the sirup jars, the base portion of said slide or drawer having a funnel or funnels located immediately below the cocks carried by the sirup jars and a recess near its rear end with which engages a Spring catch, the front portion of the drawer being covered by a slab which is hinged to the bottom of the drawer, said slab being provided with turning handles which engage with the cooks of the sirup jars, and turn buttons the stems of which are bent at right anglesto engage with the side pieces of the drawer, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
