SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,963, dated December 19, 1893- Applioation filed January 31, 1893- Serial No. 460,188- (No model.)

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that we, ALONZO J. DOUDS and FRANK F. DOUDS, citizens of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dentists Devices for Saving Gold-Filings; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, makinga part of this specification, and to the lettersof reference marked thereon,in which Figure 1, is a view showing our device properly applied to a patient. Fig. 2, is a detached view of the pouch and its frame. Fig. 8,is a detached viewof a portion of the frame showing one of the hooks.

The present inventionhas relation to dentists device for saving gold filings; and it consists in the difierent parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the accompanying drawings A represents the frame which is preferably formed of wire, and is substantially of the form shown To the frame A, is attached the top or upper portion of the pouch B, which pouch is formed of any suitable flexible material, rubber coated cloth being preferable. The inner portion of the frameA is provided with either hooks or clamps a, which hooks or projections may be substantially of the form shown, or they may be of any other desired form, as theironly object is for the pur pose hereinafter described.

The top or upper portion of the rubber dam G, is held in proper position by means of the strap 0, which strap is attached to the rubber dam in the ordinary manner. The object and purpose of attaching the rubber dam C, to the books a, is to provide a means for holding said rubber dam so that its bottom or lower portion will be received into the pouch B, thereby conveying to said pouch the filings or waste of gold during the time the decayed teeth are being filled, filed or dressed, thereby savingthe filings of precious metals, which otherwise would be lost.

By our improved device, a pouch is located directly below the chin, and in such a position that it will catch and hold all the filings or waste of precious metals, which filings are thereby prevented from loss.

The device as constructed is light and will offer no inconvenience to the patient or operator during the operation of repairing the teeth.

It will be understood that different forms of pouches may be employed without departing from the nature of our invention, but we prefer the form of pouch substantially as illustrated.

The rubber dam O, is temporarily attached to the hooks a, and is formed of such a size that when attached to the hooks a it will project into the pocket or pouch B.

The object and purpose of making the pouch and dam of two separate pieces, and temporarily attaching the rubber dam to the hooks a, is to providea device so that the same pocket can be used for any desired number of patients. dam should be used for each individual pa tient. The pouch B, is properly cleaned after use, and a new dam temporarily attached as described.

We are aware that pouches have heretofore been used in dentistry.
