ADJUSTABLE COMBINATION FLUSH AND SUPPLY FOR CLOSET-TANKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,649, dated December 12, 1898.

supply-pipe are so arranged that the two pipes are under one cover or mantle resembling but one pipe, instead of two as heretofore. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
which Figure 1, is a section and front-view of the same. Fig. 2, is a side-view of same, showing the fastening to the back-wall of the tank. Fig. 3, is a vertical-section of the flush-pipe and of the supply-pipe, showing the mantle covering the supply-pipe whichcover is made of overlaps of the material of the flush pipe.

When lever L is pulled,being connected by means of an S shaped wire or chain q with the piston-rod 'r', the piston head R on piston-rod r is raised, sucking the water of the tank into the pump-cylinder P, raising the armsfa to which the plug or Weight W is fastened and thus opening the flush-pipe F letting the contents, or part of the contents, of the tank escape through the flush-pipe F. This pump P which is fastened to the wall of the tank by clamp u has at its bottom as an inlet for the water a ball-valve V which ball is prevented from rising too high by cross-wires Q Three or more holes h are bored into the cylinder of the pump P near the bottom of the same, which may be closed by screws 71/ as shown,and by removing one or more of the screws h', the piston-head R canbe adjusted to drop faster or slower respect 'W is held in position by means of guides g as used for such purposes. These guides g are connected with the plug W and arms a by a screw-rivet s, so that when lever L is pulled the weight W is raised uncovering the mouth of the flush-pipe F, and as'soon as lever L reverses the weight W pulls down the piston-head R and closes the mouth of the flush pipe F. The screw-eye E holding piston-rod r in po sition, is placed so that lever-holder 4" must strike against the same, thus preventing the piston-head R from leaving the pump'cylinder P.
\ The flush-pipe F is made of such material that after the same is bent to its proper size, and soldered 0r fastened together at 2?, sufficient material is left on both sides of pipe F to form with these overlaps acover or mantle m for the supply-pipe Y which is placed directly behind the flushpipe F. thus leaving to the eye only one pipe instead of two separated pipes on the wall'as heretofore. This flush-pipe F with its overlaps or mantle m can be made of plated material or lackered to suit, and may be connected withany flush-tank now in use. To hold flush-pipe F with its mantle m in position, rings Z are soldered or fastened inside of the mantle m to the mantle at certain distances,andscrewed to -the wall of the closet as shownin Fig. 3.
The supply-pipe Y is bent under the bottom of-the tank or inside of' the sameaud connected with a copper swimmer in the same manner as heretofore in use, and a stop-cock K may be placed where shown to shut-off the water when necessary. To prevent the tank fromoverflowing, a
goose-neck over-flow-pipe 0 is connected with the head of the flush-pipe F, below the upper rim of the same as shownin Figs. 1 and 2.
I am aware that prior to my invention flushtanks for water-closets and other purposes have been made with flush and supply-pipes, and Weights for closing the mouth of the flushpipe. I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly, but i What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
