A pin 3, projecting from the tongue J through a slot t in the casting K, enters an arm a on the sliding rod L, placed in the switch pit below the track rail. The said magnets are furnished with short cores 1), and areinclosed in lead to prevent them from being acted upon by any water or moisture that may enter the pit.
The electromagnetic mechanism is inclosed in an iron box N, provided with cross bars 0, 0', through which the rod L slides, and on the rod L, between the arm 16 and the said cross bars 0, O, are placed buffers c, to prevent shock when thearmatures are drawn in either direction.
