WlRE-STRETCHER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,349, dated December 5, 1893.

- Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Stretchers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in wire stretchers; and it consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combinations of parts which will be fully described hereinafter and particularly referred to in the claim.

The object of my invention is to provide a very simple implement for stretching woven or single strands of fence wire.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved stretcher in an operative position. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the same, shown partlyin section. I,

A, designates the operating lever which is recessedlongitudin ally atB. Extending trans versely through the lever midway of the recess is the bolt C, to which the laterally projecting clevis D, is attached, and to this clevis the chain E, is secured and leads to the anchor stake or tree F.

G, are projecting rods having hooks G, at their outer ends facing each other. These rods are pivoted between their ends within the recess B near the respective ends of the same, while their opposite projecting ends are connected at cross rod H.

-K, the links of which are engaged by the hooks G.

In operation one of the hooks is engaged .with a chain link and the lever A, so moved as to stretch the wire.

This movement will draw the engaging hook forward while the other hook will be pushed rearward along the chain so that by engaging the latter hook with the same a now hold may be acquired and the stretching of the wire continued by reversing the movement of lever A. Thus it will be seen the first hook will be brought back along the chain for a new hold, and so the operation may continue until the fence or wire has become sufficiently stretched. s

The wire stretcher composed of the lever having the transverse slot near one end thereof, the clevis pivotally attached to said lever at or near about the center of said slot, and
