APPARATUS FOR CLEANING BEER-PIPES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters meat No. 509,235, dated November 21, 1893. Application filed March 10, 1893. Serial No. 465,457. (No model.)

To all'whom it may concern;

Be it known that we, CHARLES J. OCoNNoR and CHARLES REIsKY, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Cleaning Beer- Pipes; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings accompanying this specification.

Our improvement relates to boilers for cleaning beer pipes by means of a jet of steam forced through the pipes. Apparatus of this kind is known, usually consisting of a boiler mounted on a carriage and driven from place to place, but portable apparatus carried by hand is also known.

This invention relates to the last named class, and consists in the construction and arrangement hereinafter described and embodied in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is' an elevation of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a central, longitudinal, vertical section. Fig, 3 is a horizontal, cross section in line 0000 of Figs. 1 and 2.

1A indicates the boiler proper, which is a cylindrical vessel closed at both ends.

B is a jacket of galvanized iron which entirely incloses the boiler except at the bottom, where it is left open forming an annular passage 0. through which the products of combustion ascend to the top, surrounding the sides of the boiler, and there escape through a chimney b.

C is a stand for supporting the boiler when in use. It is made openat the sides and is provided with a shelf 0, on which is placed an ordinary gasoline lamp D, by the use of which heat is applied to the boiler.

The top of the stand 0 is provided with a right-angled seat d, of sufficient diameter to receive the bottom-of both theboiler and its surrounding jacket, and of such depth as to firmly seat the boiler in place. The bottom of the jacket B extends some distance below the bottom of the boiler, and is stiffened by a cast rim f, by which means it rests on the bottom of the seat dot the stand, and holds the bottom of the boiler elevated above the seat so that the heat can pass around it and up into the jacket space. This is clearly shown in the sectional view Fig. 2. The bottom of pipes.

the boiler is also provided with two or more downwardly projecting lugs h, which extend down into the stand, fitting closely to the sides thereof, and held by set screws is k, which pass through the sides of the stand. By this means the boiler is made fast to the stand whenever occasion requires, and it obviates the danger of overturning.

The apparatus is frequently used in contracted places where it is difficult to operate,

and where there is moreor less liability of a blow off valve 0, a steam gage p, and a water gage r.

Having described our invention we do not claim broadly a boiler provided with a discharge pipe for injecting steam into beer Neither do we claim broadly a boiler with an exterior jacket. Neither do we claim broadly a boiler resting in a supporting stand.

\Vhat we claim as, new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In an apparatus for cleaning beer pipes, the combination, with the supporting stand 0 provided with the seat d, and with the boiler A, of the inclosing jacket B extending below the boiler and resting on the seat, and the stiffening rim f at the .bottom of the jacket, as shown and described and for the purpose specified.

2. In an apparatus for cleaning beer pipes, the combination, with the supporting stand 0, of a boiler provided with projecting legs h h extending down inside the stand, an inclosing jacket B extending below the boiler and resting upon the seat so as to elevate the bottom of the boiler above the seat, and set screws it It clamping against the legs forsecuring the boiler to the stand, as shown and described and for the purpose specified.
