ATTUHNEY.
UNrTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUDWIG PEETZ, OF ESCHWEILERAUE, NEAR AIX-LA-CHAPELLE, GERMANY.
SKID-SHOE FOR RAILWAY-CARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,'971, dated November 21, 1893. Application filed Tune 27, 1893. Serial No.479,000. (No model.)
' To V@ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUDWIG PEETZ, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Eschweileraue, near AiXla-Chapelle, Germany, have linvented certain new and useful Improvements in Skid-Shoes for Railway-Carriages, of which the following is a specifica-` tion.
Figure l is a side view. Fig. 2, is a cross view,and.Fig. 3 is a top View. of my improved skid shoe.
My present. invention has for its object to prevent the wheel of a railway carriage from running off the skid-shoe and to enable the same however to continue to turn as the rollers arranged in the casing of the skid shoe, through the friction of the Wheel are caused to rotate in the opposite direction.
In the skid-shoe for railway carriages sho WnV in the accompanying drawings the continuation of the upper surface is formed behindl the wedge-shaped portion by means of one,
' two or more rollers which are arranged to turn 'in the casing of the skid-shoe. By this arrangement the shocks which injuriously affect the journal bearing, the bearing casing, Vand. the lower part of the carriage-frame are considerably deadened, and the Wheel is prevented from running olf the skid-shoe as it still continues to turn, without, however, being able. to run along the skid-shoe as the rollers, through the friction of the wheel, are caused to rotate in the opposite direction.
I do claim as of my invention- A skid-shoe for railway-carriages hereinbefore described, the continuation of the upper surface of which is formed behind the wedge shapedy portion by means of one, two or more rollers which are arranged as shown and described, to operate as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUDWIG PEETZ.
