Be it known that I, ADONIRAM J. BIRD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing ab Roekland, in the county of Knox and State 0f Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Punehing-Cutters, 0f whieh the following is a specifieation.
My invention relates 130 a maehine for the manufaeture of lime peneils or eylinders adapted f0r use with caleium lights or in any other situation where cylinders or peneils can be used or where they wou1d be desira.ble.
My invention eonsists broadly of a table adaphed to receive the material to be operated upon, and a tubular eutter adapted t0 be foreed. through the material 130 eut out the peneil 01 eylinder from the material whieh asses down through the eutter to a suitable diseharge.
The invention further consists in the various details of construction hereinafter more partieularly Set forth.
In the aecompanying drawings Figure 1, is a front elevation of a portion of the mechanism, partly in perspeetive, and Fig. 2, an enla.rged front view, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a p1a.n view of the table.
In the drawings the supporting table A is shown as eircu1ar though it may be of any shape and has a flat upper surfaee 1:0 reeeive the material to be operated upon. II: is.eonneeted 120 downwardly extending guide rode O, whieh pa.ss through braekets a, b, and between these braekets spiral springe E eneir- 010 the ends of the guide rode bearing against the lower bracket b. The upper ends of the springs bear against washer c seeured to the guide rods and the tension of the springs and consequently the upward movernent 01: the table is inereased or dinciinished by adjusting the washer through the means of a pin d, and a series of holes in the guide rods. It will thus be seen that the table is kept normally raised by the pres sure of the springe and in operation it is depressed against the pressure of these springe as will be more ful1y hereinafter described.

a ho1low shaft e ad'apted to rotate in bearings in the braekets a, b, and having secured to it a band wheel D whieh is driven from any suitable source of power to rota.te the said shafta. Secured to the upper end of this hol- 1ow shaft is a hollow cutter F bald in place by mea.ns of a thumb screw so that it may be readi1y rernoved or adj usted as may be found neeessary. The upper end of this tubular eutter is serrated er toothed so that when the 1ime or other material is plaeed upon the tab1e it is positioned over an opening therein whieh is in direet line with the eutter F. The table is depressed against the eutter which in its rotation euts into the material a.nd cuts 0ut therefrom a peneil o1 cylinder which passes down through the eutter and. through the ho1low sh3ft into a receptacle adapted to receive the penoil.
Pressure is applied to the material by mea.ns 0f a pressure plate B in the form of a disk which is supported by a sleeve extending from a, bracket F the spindle of the disk extending through the s1eeve g, and eonnected with a handle z, and surrounded by a spring 'h, so that the disk will be kept normally raised. The lower end of the spindle is counected to the end of a pivoted 1ever K and this lever is conneeted to atreadle l, through a rod m, so that the disk may be depressed to foree the material and table downward by both band and f0ot pressure. After the material is p1aced upon the tab1e A, the disk is brought into contact with i1; and the disk and maberial with the tab1e forced down upon the rotating tubular cutter with the result speeified.
Suitable oi1 eups may be provided to 111- bricate the upper and lower bearings of the shaft e.
