PRINTERS DRYING-RACK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN T. KOERNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printers Drying-Racks and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to that class of drying racks or trays adapted for lithographers or printers use, and consists of certain improvements in that form of interchangeable rack or tray for which Letters Patent No. 392,735 were, granted to me on the 13th day of November, 1888. This certain rack or tray consisted essentially of a floor piece or pieces having secured thereto on each side a rail, each rail having an inner wall, a shelf or recess above the inner wall, a guard along the outside of the shelf or recess and an outside groove below the guard adapted for sliding register with the guard of the rack placed beneath.

The object of my present invention is th production of a rack or tray having a rail which is much more compact than my former rail, and which can be more rigidly secured to the fioor piece or pieces, and to that end my invention consists essentially of a floor piece or pieces having secured thereto on each side a rail, each rail having an inner wall, a shelf above the inner Wall, an outside groove adjacent to the shelf, and opposite to the inner wall, and a depending guard underneath the outside groove and projecting below the floor piece adapted for sliding register with the outside groove of the rack placed beneath and a recess above the depending guard forming ashelf for the reception of the end of the floor piece.

I will now minutely describe the manner in which I have carried out my invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an under side view of one of my improved racks or trays.

Fig. 2 is an elevation of a series of the racks forming a drying stack. Fig. 3 is an enlarged partial section taken in the line a:w of Fig. 1. 1

Referring to the drawings, 1. 1. are the floor pieces secured to the rails preferably at intervals so as to form open spaces between them. Along the ends of these floor pieces are the rails 22. 2. to which they are joined.

Each rail consists of an inner wall 8 of the depth of the tray. Above this wall 3, and at right angles thereto, is the narrow shelf 4 forming a rest for the contiguous end of the rack above it.

5 is the outside groove adjacent to the shelf which is cut across the upper and outer corner of the rail.

6 is the guard underneath the outside groove 5, and depending below the floor 1- of the rack.

7 is the under side of the rail between the inner wall 3, and the depending guard 6, and to which the ends of the floor pieces 1 are secured by screws 8, and 9 is a recess which receives the extreme ends 10 of the floor pieces, thereby forming'a rest 11 for these accurately with the outside grooves 5 of the rack beneath them which enables them to be slid on or off from each other as required.

It will be observed that my improved racks or trays are interchangeable one for the other.
