IMPROVEMENT IN MANUFACTURE OF lNDlA-RUBBER BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 503, dated December 7, 1837.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN 0. SMITH, of NewYork, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Manufacturine Boots and Shoes of Sheet India-Rubber; and I do here- -by declare that the following is a tall and exact description of the process of mal'nifacture. A cloth or leather lining is fitted to the last and sewed or cemented to an insole ofleather; I
Over this are then spread with a brush two or. three coats of dissolved india-ruhher to render it sticky. The sheet-rubber is then out into the proper shape and two or three coats of dissolved india-rubberspread on one side of it. The sheet-rubber is then put onto the cloth lin- Witesses:
