SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 501,973, dated July 25, 18973.

Be it known that I, CHARLES C. UMBEN- BAUER, of Miamisburg, county of Montgomery, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ham-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, refro erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful I5 improvements in ham holders.

The object of my invention is to provide substantial means for conveniently securing and holding a ham, leg of mutton, beef or like article, While the same is being sliced, or

zo cut by the retail dealer; to this end I provide a device that may be secured to the meat table or block, and that occupies but a small space thereon; that holds the ham, leg of mutton or other article in a vise-like manner z 5 while the same is being cut, thereby guarding the possibility of cutting the hands by the slipping or dislodgment of said article.

A Av represent upright standards terminating upwardly in an arbor or arched portion B, through the center of which is a screwthreaded opening in which the screw O with the hand crank d is placed. .A curved clamp e is secured to the lower end of the screw C by means of a socket in said clamp in which the end of the screw is inserted and secured 5o by a set-screw t'. This clampis provided with slots in the ends thereof in which the sides of the standards fit; the parts '11 t" ofrsaid clamps project slightly on the sides of the standards and serve to guide the clamp and keep it in place.

At the base of the standards and integral therewith curved ledges D and E of acontour conforming to the shape of the shank and shoulder of the ham, are provided, and also feet O O by which the device is secured to 6othe table or block by screws or other suitable means. There is also a hole through the center of ledge E through which a screw may be placed and the device thereby secured to the table near its center. The ledges D and E are essential features of the device, as by their construction, as is shown, the ham is maintained most rigidly when the clamp e is brought to bear thereagainst, and frequent tightening is unnecessary as the screw O is 7o not affected by the operation of cutting or sawing the ham,and again, the ham is not in the least mutilated by being secured in this manner. The shank of the ham is placed on the ledge D which has acapacity for any sized 7 5 shank when the clamp e is lowered thereon. The ledge E isconstructed with agreater area of-surface as the ham is tightened at this point' by the clamp. Therefore this ledge is required to meet the entire pressure, which So it does in a successful manner.

Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The device herein described for holdi-ng a ham,consisting of a base having the'curved 85 ledges D and E, the latter having an extent of surface greater than the former, and the shapes of both ledges conforming to the shape of the shank and shoulder of a ham,the screw C, andthe clamp e adapted to be depressed 9o against the ham to secure the same, substantially as herein described.

In a ham holder, the Combination with the standards having at their base the curved ledges D and E, feet O O by which it is atg5 tached to a table, and at its top an arch; of the screw C, with the crank CZ, the curved clamp e fixed to said screw, and maintained in position by guides t" 7l', substantially as herein described.
