STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,878, dated July 4, 1893.
Application filed March 27, 1893. Serial No. 467,858. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, PETER FRANK,of Portland, in the county of Callaway and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves, of which the following is a specification. My invention is an improvement in stoves having for an object to provide means to increase the heating capacity of the stove and the invention consists in the novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove constructed according to my invention the ash door being shown open. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the stove and Fig. 3 is a cross section on about line 33 of Fig. 2.
Within the casing A is formed the fire box B having the usual inlet closed by the door 0, below which is the ash door D pivoted atd at one of its rear corners so that it may be swung laterally to one side as shown in Fig. 1.
Below the fire box B Iform a heating drum having an upper chamber E and a lower chamber F which communicate or are connected at their front and rear ends by fines l and 2. These heating chambers E and F extend the width of the stove and are separated vertically by an air space G opening into the room and free to permit the air to circulate freely between the upper and lower chambers E F. At its upper rear end the fire box or combustion chamber has an outlet H and an outlet I the former leading into a flue J which extends down and connects with the drum and the latter I being controlled by the damper '5 and opening into the top flue K convenient to the up-take L. This top fine K extends above the combustion chamber and is connected at its front end by upright fiues MM preferably two, arranged one at each side of the front of the fire box and opening at their lower ends into the drum immediately above the front connection or flue 1 as best shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
In the top of the stove convenient to the upper end of the flues M, I form openings m which may be closed by suitable lids and permit the convenient cleaning of the fines. End doors N N at the front and rear of the heating drum provide for cleaning the upper and lower chambers of said drum. Alongside the drum and preferably opposite the air space thereof I provide a foot rail 0 which may be suitably braced in place. I only show one of such rails but obviously they may be provided at both sides if desired.
In operation the damper may be opened to permit the draft to pass directly from the combustion chamber up the uptake and this may be quite desirable in starting a fire or it may be closed as shown in Fig. 2 to cause the products of combustion to take the cir cuitous course indicated by the arrows therein to heat the drum and fiues and render the stove more effective as a heating medium.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A stove substantially as described having below its fire box or combustion chamber a heating drum formed with upper and lower heating chambers, and flues leading to and from said drum substantially as set forth.
2. An improved stove having in communication with its fire box or combustion chambers a horizontally disposed drum having upper and lower heating chambers and an intermediate air space opening for the free circulation of air substantially as set forth.
3. A stove comprising the fire box or combustion chamber the upper flue, the drum arranged below the fire box, and the front and rear flues communicating with the said drum substantially as set forth.
4. An improved stove having the horizontally disposed drum formed with upper and lower chambers and provided at its opposite ends with doors substantially as set forth.
5. In a stove substantially as described the combination with the fire box the drum arranged below the same, and the flue above said fire box of the flue or connection leading from the fire box to the drum and the up right fines leading from the drum up along the opposite sides of the fire box and opening into the top flue substantially as set forth.
6.
