LACING-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,565, dated July 4, 1893.
Application filed November 4, 1892. Serial No. 450,941- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. H. DowsE, acit-zen of the United States, residing at Newton, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Lacing-Hooks for Shoes, Gloves, Corsets, and the Like, of whichl the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of fasteners for shoes, gloves, corsets, and the like, wherein the parts of the article are drawn together by cords passing through suitablelacing hooks fastened to said parts, and consists in improvements in said lacing hooks.
The lacing hook, which is struck up from one piece of sheet metal, is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters represent like parts.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of lacing hook. Figs. 2 and 3 are a plan and side elevation respectively, of same. Fig. 4 is a View of the under side of the lacing hook.
In the drawings, f is a convex cap, supported over the base h by the upright g, againstwhich the cord or lacing is drawn. The upright b is given a rounded form as shown in Fig. 2, in order to increase the stiffness of the hook, as well as to diminish the erosion of the lacing against its edges.
In order to prevent the lacing from slippin g out of the hook, the opening of the hook is considerably narrowed by striking up from the base, the knob 7c, and opposite it on the cap, another knob Z as shown in the drawings. From the 'base h is struck out the sharpened spiral of metal 'L' shown in Figs. 2 and 4:. This when pulled down slightly, as shown in Figs. l and 3, forms a screw by which the hook 1s secured to the material.
In order to hold the screw firmlyin 'the material, a number of barbs or points, j y j, are struck-up from the spiral in such a way as to allow the screw to easily enter the material but to engage with the material and prevent its being withdrawn.
I claim- A lacing hook or fastener, in one piece, having a central spiral attachment provided with barbs substantially as described.
