SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,152, dated June 27, 1893.
Application filed October 13, 1892. Serial No. 448,749- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SETH A. NICHOLS, of
.Fowlerville, county of Livingston, and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Devices for Preventing Animals from Jumping, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to produce an improved device which is adapted to be worn upon the neck of an animal, and will prevent it when running loose in pasture from jumping or destroying fences.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device; Fig. 2 a front view thereof; Fig. 3 a view.of the spreader separated from the poke.
Referring to the figures on the drawings, 1 indicates a poke, which may be made of suitable material, preferably Wood of suitable lengthand weight, for the purpose to which it is to be applied. 2 indicates a cross-head carried on the inner end thereof, and adapted, when'the head of the animal is raised, to hold the poke in the elevated position. 3 indicates a spreader, which consists preferably of a U-shaped part 5, and a terminally screw-threaded shank 6 that is adapted to pass through an aperture 7 in the poke and be secured in place by a nut 8.
9 indicates pivotal apertures in the U- shaped part of the spreader, through which a pin 11 is passed to pivotally secure the yoke 12 to the spreader. The ends of the yoke are located outside of the U-shaped part of the spreader, and are kept separated by it. The ends of the yoke are provided with apertures 13 through which the pin is passed for securing the yoke to the spreader, as above stated.
14 indicates a cotter-pin for holding the pin 11 in place.
By the construction and arrangement above described I obtain a very simple, durable, and effective device for the purpose specified.
What I claim is The combination with a yoke and a poke, of a spreader consisting of a shank adapted to be secured to the poke, and a U-shaped part adapted to be inserted between the ends of the yoke, and a pin for securing the yoke to the spreader, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
