To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWARD T. NooNAN and JOSEPH V. SCHMILL, of the city of Chicago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful -Improvements in Polycycles, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates t0 that general class of amusement apparatus, known as merrygo-ronnds and the like, and by it we attain a stability of construction, insuring safety and pleasure in its use, While its operation 'is at all times within the control of suitable attendants.
We show in the accompanying drawings four views. Y
Figure 1, is vertical view of a half section of a circular platform involving our invention. Fig. 2, is a lateral view of the polycycles witha section of the groove wherein they run arranged for use. Fig. 3, is a view of the brake device whereby the operation of the apparatus is placed under control of attendants, and Fig. 4, is a view ot' the device by which the cycles are rigidly attached to each other.

In the accompanying drawings the letter A, denotes a circular platform around which the cycles B in any suitable number revolve in a groove C rigidly held together insuch form as to easily make the circuit by the bar D made of pipes bent in form as shown, or of iron or other suitable material made to conform to the same shape. This bar is made in sections with threaded ends and attached together; by the caps E. The cycles are provided with the usual seat F, handles G, pedals H.
Each cycle is provided with a bent rod I, rmly attached at its upper end to the inner side of the axle, reaching downward and below the side of the groove in which the cycles run, and there at its lower end is attached to a cable J of suitable material. Reaching from the center of the platform are four arms K made of any suitable material, designed to reach to they bent yrod I, provided at its end f next the rod with a block L, of Woodor other suitable material, and at itsother end with a bevel wheel M, reciprocating with another and larger bevel Wheel N, attached to an npright shaft O, tted at its upper end with geared wheels P, and provided with a threaded end, and engaging another geared wheel Q,
which itself is attached to the crank R. The y arm K, is provided with a spring S,suitably attached, so that upon the operation of the crank R, the upright shaft O, is revolved, and by means of itsthreaded end is raised up, thereby raising the bevel wheel N, and pressing upon the bevel wheels M, and so extending the arm K, until itl comes in contact with a brake causes the cycles to stop.l
