Description

6 H. ROTH & W. SCHMIDT.
HEATING ATTACHMENT FOR COOKING AND HEATING PURPOSES- No. 496,210.
2 I n Mm w M B 5? d f'ave UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HEINRICH ROTH AND WVILHELM SCHMIDT, OF BERLIN, GERMANY, ASSIGNORS OF ONE-THIRD TO ANTON WEBER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
HEATING ATTACHMENT FOR COOKING AND HEATING PURPOSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,210, dated April 25, 1898.
Application filed May 20,1892. Serial No. 433,741. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HEINRICH ROTH and WILHELM SCHMIDT, both citizens of the Kingdom of Prussia, and residents of the city of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating Attachments for Cooking and Heating Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates especially to a heating attachment for use in connection with stoves and has for its object to so dispose the fire as to effect the most advantageous use of the fuel.
The heating attachment is adapted to be readily connected with any cooking or heating stove which has an upper annular top as well as with all round iron stoves and also with heating or cooking fire-places provided with annular tops.
Our invention will be understood upon reference to the accompanying drawings in which:-
Figure 1 is a vertical axial section of our attachment. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of an oven or a kitchen fire-place and our improved attachment applied to the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the base or lower enlarged portion of the attachment and Fig. A is a vertical sectional view showing the application of our invention to a heating stove in which the combustion chamber is replaced and rendered circuitous by the double flue in order to produce a greater heating etfect.
Our invention consists of a vertical fine or drum divided by a partition B into two parts, connected at top and separated at bottom, one of which parts at bottom is connected with the fire chamber while the other is connected with the chimney and the whole constitutes a circuitous connection between the fire chamber and chimney which throws the heat into contact with a radiating surface. In constructing this apparatus chamotte, stoneware, or clay tubing may be employed. For making the circuitousfire passages or fines (well known in other constructions of stoves) and leading back and forth, the partition Wall E is employed, the same being formed of tinned or sheet iron. The direction in which the fines lead is indicated by arrows in Figs. 2 and 4c. The bolt A is secured to the top of the partition B, and allows adjustment to keep the anchor B tightly anchored against the enlarged portion at the base of the drum as well as to provide a simple means for holding the partition in the drum and retaining the cover or disk D in place on top. As the drum is composed. of stoneware the bolt allows ad justment that is often necessary in case of any inequalities in the shape of the drum, and also providing a simple means as already stated of fastening the three parts together.
The cap D is formed of sheet metal, while beneath this cap D, is a curved sheet metal disk which serves to retain the cap in position. The space 0, between the cap D and the disk is covered with clay at the time the apparatus is set up, so that the cap D forms a compact and rigid closure for the tubular body of the device.
\Ve claim- 1. In a heating attachment for stoves, the combination of the drum or flue, the partition wall B dividing said drum or flue into two parts connected at top and separated at bottom, the bolt A, on the partition and the cap D to form a support for the partition substantially as described.
2. In a heating attachment for stoves the drum or flue divided by the partition B securely held by the bolt A to the cap D, and the anchor 13 to the enlarged portion of the drum, substantially as described.
3. In a heating attachment for stoves the drum or due divided by the partition B, securely fastened in said drum, and extending beyond the base of the drum and the securing bolt and anchor, substantially as described.
In witness whereof we have hereunto signed our names in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
