UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE.
ANTONIUS C. ALBRECHT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE NORTH BROTHERS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
EGG-BEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,925, dated April 18, 1898.
Application filed October 13, 1892. Serial No. 4431 75- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANTONIUS O. ALBRECHT, of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Culinary Beaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of myinvention is to produce an improved machine forbeating eggs, whipping cream or the like, whereby the facility of operating it is increased and the danger of spilling the contents is avoided.
In the accompanying drawings: Figurel is a side elevation of my beater. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the cap and operating mechanism thereof with the whips removed. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same, taken at right angles to the View shown in Fig. 1. Fig.4is a central vertical section of the mechanism illustrated in Fig. 3.
Referring to the figures on the drawings, 1
indicates a suitable vessel, as for example a glass jar, to which is fitted a cap 2 which preferably projects upwardly, like acupola, forming a pinion and bearing case 3, and terminates preferably in a central vertical post or gear support 4.
5 indicates a main gear, which is revolubly carried on a stud 6 thatis preferably screwed into the top of the post. 7
7 indicates an aperture in the top of the pinion and bearing case, and just below its juncture with the post. This aperture is protected by a transverse horizontally-disposed curved wall 8 that closes thelower part of the aperture and which prevents the spattering or slopping of the contents of the jar through the cap. It at the same time permits engagement of the cogs of the gear 5 with the pinion 9 that is carried upon the smooth bearing surface 10 of a screw 11, which is screwed into the lower end of the post, as illustrated. The pinion is provided upon its lower ex tremity with a suitable whip-retaining device, 5 as for example that indicated at 12, to which whips l3,formed of continuous pieces of Wire wrapped around the retaining device in a well-known manner, are, for example, secured.
14 indicatesa crank which is preferably detachably secured to the gear 5 by a screw 15.
In use whips are inserted within the vessel and the top is set firmly upon it; then by rotating the crank an operator is enabled conveniently, quickly, and thoroughly to beat up I the contents of the vessel without spilling any part of them.
A special advantage resulting from my invention is that the whips cannot rub against the bottom of the jar, which has proven a serious fault in beaters of this class.
What I claim is- The combination with a cap or cover adapted to be secured to the top of a vessel, a pinion and bearing case thereon, a post upon top of 6 said case, a protected aperture in the top of the case, a gear crank pivotally carried on the post, a pinion and whips carried within the case and meshing through the aperture with the gear substantially as set forth.
In testimony of all which I have hereunto subscribed myname.
' ANTONIUS C. ALBRECHT.
