Description

(No Model.)
J. HOHENREINER. CHIMNEY DOOR N0. 491,735. Patented Feb. 14, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEF IIOI-IENREINER, OF MUNICH, GERMANY.
CHIMNEY-DOOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,735, dated February 14, 1893.
Application filed April 9, 1892. Serial No. 428.490. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OSEF HOHENREINER, of Munich, in the Kingdom of Bavaria and German Empire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chimney-Doors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, olear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is an improvement in closing and locking chimney apertures and consists in the novel features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which my said invention is illustrated, and my invention is fully disclosed in the following description and claims.
Referring to said drawings Figure l is a rear View of my improved door and its supporting frame. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same, the bolt operating spindle beingshown in section. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of the'same.
In the drawings m represents the door frame which is placed in engagement with the chimney aperture. This frame is preferably provided with laterally projecting flanges m which engage the chimney breast and prevent the frame from being forced into the chimney aperture too far. The frame m is also provided with suitable apertures or recesses u n to receive the ends of the arms of the securing bolt which secures the door in place. The door consists in this instance of two plates (1 a suitably riveted or otherwise secured together and of such a size as to fit snugly within the frame 111. The front plate a is provided with a recessed cap or casing e secured to said plate in the circular recess of which is located the circular pivot plate 0 having a spindle or projection or pivot pin (1, extending through a suitable aperture in the plate a. To the spindle or projection (Z is secured rigidly the securing bolt which consists of a lever having a series of arms I) Z) b as shown so constructed and arranged as to engage the apertures n n n of the frame when the spindle is turned to throw them into engagement with such apertures. I prefer to provide the bolt with three arms as shown one to engage one of the horizontal walls and two for engaging the opposite vertical walls of the frame, and I preferably form all these arms from one piece of metal as shown, I therefore term said arms, the three armed securing bolt. The plate a is provided with a recess or socket K to receive one end of an operating lever g, and the cap or casing e is provided with a slot 11 to permit the insertion of the lever into said socket and the lateral movement of said lever to throw the bolts into and out of engagement with the locking recesses of the frame m.
In Fig. 3 the door is shown pushed partly within the frame. Then it is pushed in fully the lever g is inserted in the socket 7c of the turning plate and said plate is rotated to throw the three armed bolt into engagement with the frame and thereby locking the door in place. The lever 9 may then be removed and the door will remain in place until it is unlocked in the same way, by means of said lever. I
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. A chimney closing device including a frame for engaging the chimney aperture provided with locking recesses, and a door for engaging said frame having a pivoted bolt provided with a series of locking arms for engaging said recesses rigidly secured to turn together on said pivot, a pivot plate secured to said pivot and provided with a socket for receiving an operating lever, a casing inclosing said plate and having a slot adjacent to said socket, substantially as described.
2. A chimney closing device including the frame for engaging the chimney recess having the locking recesses, the door for engaging said frame provided with a pivot plate having a pivot pin adapted to turn therewith an integral three armed bolt secured to turn with said pivot pin, said pivot plate having a socket for the reception of an operating lever, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto setmy hand in presence of two witnesses.
J OSEF HOHENREINER.
