F. R. TUBBESING.
DASHBOARD.
No. 490,692. Patented Jan. 31, 1893.
UNITED STATES P TENT -OFFI'CE.
FRANK R. TUBBESING, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
DASHBOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 490,692, dated January 31, 1893.
Application filed November 4, 1891. $erial No. 410,892. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK R. TUBBESING, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Dashboards and Guards; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a side View showing the application of invention to old vehicles. Fig. 2 is a detail View and Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
This invention has relation to certain improvements in dashboards for carriages and other vehicles, and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts as hereinafter specified.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates a vehicle having my improved dashboard and guard B applied thereto. The upper portion B of the dash is shown as carried outwardly and upwardly over the rear portion of the horse or other animal attached to the vehicle, and provided at its upper for-- ward portion with the rein support- 19 standing at right angles thereto. The board is preferably made in two parts, the upper section 13 being vertically adjustable with relation to the lower section in order that it may be regulated for different animals.
serves to hide from the sight of the persons in the vehicle the rear portions of the animal, also screening them from any unpleasant odor arising from the animal. The lines are'also elevated thereby into a position where it will be impossible for the animal to th row its tail over them.
It will be obvious that if preferred. the dash may be made in a single piece, having the curved upper portion, and non-adj ustable.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
In a vehicle, the combination with an ordinary dashboard, of the herein described supplementary board, forming a guard or screen, said supplementary board being of curved segmental form, resting on the upper edge of the ordinary board, and projecting upwardly and forwardly thereof, and rods or strips on said supplementary board held in clamps or sockets on the ordinary board, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK R. TUBBESING. Witnesses:
