W. H. BETTS. MOP WRINGER.
No. 487,821. Patented Deo. 13, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM n. BETTs, OE LINCOLN, NEBRASKA, AssieNoR To rri-IE MODEL MOP PAIL AND WRINGER COMPANY, on SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATIONifoiming part of Letters Patent No. 487,821, dated December 13, 1892.
Application filed March l0, 1892.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BE'rTs, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mop-wringers, in which the mop is passed through rollers xed in the mop-pail; and it consists, first, in a novel arrangement of the rollers that are fixed upon supports permanently secured in the pail, and, second, in the form and arrangement of the springs that act upon one of the rollers; and the objects of my improvement are to furnish a durablevand convenient mop-wringer that shall be fixed in the mop-pail and always ready for use and to furnish a simple and effectual means for securing the requisite pressure on the rollers, which is done by the use of the springs, as shown. The foot-rest F serves to hold the pail down while drawing up the mop.
The following is a description of my invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of a pail, showing the rollers supporting brackets and springs at one end of rollers; and Fig. 2 shows the fastening and spring at the opposite end of the rollers. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a pail with myimproved wringer attached.
Similar letters refer to like parts throughout.
In the pail A are placed the two rollers o c', which are supported at one end by the bar e and at the other by the two brackets b b. These supports are secured to the pail by screws in the manner indicated. One of the rollers c revolves on a pin having fixed bearserai No. 424,466. (No model.)
ings, while for the other the pin or axle is placed in slots in the supports c and b. This roller is furnished with the two wire springs l S and P, arranged as shown, and which serve to hold the rollers together, while allowing a sufficient separation for the passage of the mop. The spring P is made of brass wire with a spiral coil in the center, and the ends are secured upon the axles of the two rollers. The spring S is also made of brass wire with aspiral coil in the center, and one end is fastened upon the axle of the movable roller c', while theother is lixed in the bracket b.
The two rollers c c may be made of wood or other suitable material, and the brackets b b and 'oar e may be properly made of wrought-iron.
The mop-stick d is provided with a simple wire loop, to which the material of the mop may be sewed. The rollers are separated sufticiently to allow this wire loop to be inserted edgewise between them, when the mop is simply drawn upward by the handle and the water pressedout by the action of the rollers.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claiml. In combination with a mop-pail A, the rollers c c', supported at one end` by the bar e and at the other by the separate brackets b b', in the manner set forth. A f
2. The combination of the rollers c c', crossbar e, brackets b b', pail A, and springs S P, all arranged and operated as and for the purposes set forth.
