MACHINE FOR CASTING SASH-WEIGHTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,263, dated December 6, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB GOLDBERG, a Citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Casting Sash- Veights and other Articles, of which the following is a specication.
The present invention relates to a machine comprising a revoluble frame or wheel, a number of molds arranged in a circular series around periphery of said frame, each of said molds being formed of two longitudinal parts hinged together, and means for automatically closing the hinged mold-sections onto their fellow sections and holding them closed until the molten material is poured in and has had time to harden.
The object of the invention is to improve, simplify, and cheapen the construction ofthe device for closing the molds and holding them closed; and said invention consists in certain features of novelty that are particularly pointed out in the claims hereinafter.

A represents a base-plate having a centrally-located annular flange a, which forms a socket for receiving and centering the reduced lower end of a vertical shaft B, which may be driven by any desired means.
G is a wheel or plate supported by a number of rollers c, journaled to its under side near its periphery and resting upon the bedplate A, which latter serves as a track. The wheel is centrally perforated for the passage of the reduced portion of the shaft, and the shoulder resulting from said reduced portion bears upon the top side of the wheel.
D is a wheel that forms the revoluble framefor supporting the molds. It is secured to the shaft B by a set-screw d or other suitable device and rests directly upon the top side of the wheel C. To the periphery of this wheel a number of molds E are secured. Each of these molds is formed in two longitudinal sections hinged together, so that one section may swing outward away from. the other section in the well-known manner.
F is a plate curved concentrically with the axis of the mold-bearing frame and'loeated in such position that as each mold comes to it in succession its movable section will be closed upon its fellow section and held closed until it has passed the plate, after which the mold is thrown open by a suitable tripping device. This arrangement of the closingplate and molds is not in itself new; but so far as I am aware the mechanism now to be described for supporting said plate and regulating its pressure against the molds is new.
G is a suitable bed-plate, which is prefer ably an extension of the plate A, from which rises a standard G', having near its top a screw-threaded perforation and a short flange g. Through the perforation passes a handscrew H, having a reduced end h, and upon the flange g rests a stout bar I, having a perforation through which the reduced end of the screw passes. To each end of the bar is secured by bolts or other suitable 'means a bow-spring J, placed in vertical position and having its ends secured to the plate F by means of clips or metallic straps K or other suitable devices that Will permit the necessary movement between the plate and the end of the spring as the latter yields. It will be seen that this arrangement enables the simultaneous adjustment of both springs by a single action and that the pressure upon the plate F is equalzed at allparts.
More than one of the plates F and its accessories may be used, if desired.
