COMBINED GAS AND ELECTRIC-LIGHT FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,813, dated August 1611892.
Application filed October 31, 1889- Serial No. 328,872. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALANSON T. ENOS, of the cit-y, county, and State of New York,have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Electric-Light and Gas Fixture, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved combination electrolier by which gas and electricity can be supplied to the desired point.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a lateral elevation; Fig. 2, a plan view, and Fig. 3 a section through the central pivoted joint. Fig. 4 represents a cross-section of the device on a planethrough the axis of Fig. 2.
My invention is shown as applied to a bracket having a joint at the wall and a central joint. The two arms A B are pivoted at C and likewise at D, as shown. The gas is carried in the usual way,passing through the pipes A B. The electric wires are conveyed through the semi-cylindrical pipes or covers E F. Fittings are provided at the joints to allow of the carrying of the conducting-wires around these pivoted connections. As shown, they consist of two drums or cylindrical pieces G H, one receiving the wire from the pipe E and the other connecting with the pipe F, as shown clearly in Fig. 3. The connectingwires surround the central gas-pipe, as shown in Fig. 3, and enough slack is allowed in the casing to permit the movement of the gas-pipe around the pivot. The same general construction is shown at the wall-joint, the wires being led in there through the pipe K or in any other suitable way into the stationary part of the drum D. As will be seen, the electric wires L are laid close together through the pipes E and F and are separated at the central joint, where they surround the gaspipe, and are sufficiently loose to allow of the pivotal motion of the gas-pipe without protecting joints at the pivot.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, with two gas-pipes pivoted together, of semi-cylindrical pipes having their open sides resting against the gaspipes, forming conduits carrying an electric conductor, anda joint exterior to the gas-pipe joint and between the gas-pipes connecting with said semi cylindrical pipes, through which the continuous wires of the conductors pass, substantially as described.
2. The combination,with two gas-pipes pivoted together, of the semi-cylindrical pipes having their open sides resting against the gas-pipes, forming closed conduits, carrying a double electric conductor, and the cylindrical pieces connected to said semi-cylindrical pipes and surrounding the gas-j oint, through which pieces the electric wires pass on either side of the gasjoint, substantially as described.
