BEEF-TENDERER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,178, dated August 2, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT C. DE SHEP- PARD, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Bloomsburg,in the county of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new ment of the parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
The object of this invention is to simplify the construction of the parts ofadevice of the charactersetforth to thereby render the same inexpensive of manufacture and cheaply sold.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a meat-tenderer embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same on the line 00 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same on the line yy, Fig.1, showing the device disconnected from its handle. Fig. 4 is adetail perspective view of one of the wheels removed.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a yoke having a tang B, adapted to be fitted in a handle C. In the arms of said yoke A is stationarily fitted a rod or bar D, on which a series of toothed wheels E are rotatably mounted and embraced snugly between the arms of said yoke A. Each of said wheels E has its opposite faces beveled toward the peripheries of the same, and the teeth E are intersected by Vshaped spaces F, which are made of considerable width at points between the crowns of the teeth to thereby provide means for preventing choking of said spaces or throats, and also adapt the same to be readily cleaned.
In operating the device the handle is grasped and the wheels run backward and forward over the meat, being pressed downward thereon and the teeth sinking into the same to thereby make it tender. The said wheels having no uniform rate of rotation,but rather running independently each of the other, prevents injury to said teeth of the said wheels when striking bone or other hard substance, as will be readily understood.
The device will be constructed from suitable metal applicable for the purpose, or it could readily be made from parts of different substances or of other substances than metal.
The advantage of this device resides in its wheels at the said central portions thereof issuch as to fill the spacebetween the arms of the yoke, and thereby prevent lateral movement of said wheels' The space formed between the peripheries of the adjacent Wheels will provide an uncut or untendered portion of the meat over which the device is run and prevent entire severance of said meat and hold the same together until the device is run in an opposite direction, and thereby avoid complete disintegration, but at the same time a sufficient integration as to produce the desired result.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is- In a meat-tenderer, the combination of a yoke adapted to be secured to a handle and having a rod or bar fixed in the arms thereof and non-rotatable, and a series of toothed wheels freely mounted on said rod or bar to provide an independent rotation thereof and having their opposite faces beveled equally and eonvergingly from the centers to the peripheries of the same, said wheels being held in proper transverse position by the enlargement in the center of each bearing against a similar enlargement of the adjacent Wheel on each side in a loose manner, substantially as described.
