SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,910, dated August 2, 1892.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, PETER LUGENBELL, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Greensburg, in the county of Decatur and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Attaching Storm-Curtains to Vehicle-Tops; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to vehicle-tops, and especially to the manner of securing the stormcurtains to the quarters.
The object of the invention is to shed the water and obviate a space between the lower edge of the quarter and the top edge of the storm-curtain,thereby excluding the rain.
The improvement consists of the novel feazo tures and the peculiar construction and combination of the parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion ofva buggy-top, showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of one side of the buggy-top, showing the storm-curtain in position.
The vehicle-top shown in the accompanying drawings is illustrated to show the application of the invention. Obviously the invention is designed to be applied to all vehicles in which the storm-curtain is removably at- 3 5 tached to the quarters. The lower portion a of the quarter A is left free for purposes of attaching thereto on the inner side the stormcurtain B, which curtain is connected with the portion a in any convenient manner. In

By providing the strip 0 the strain is more evenly distributed on the quarter and the latter prevented from injury when the said curtain B is subjected to abnormal strain at any particular point.
In practice the upper edge of the stormcurtain is inserted between the portion a of the quarterA and the bows D and is secured to the quarter by passing the hooks I) through the eyes e. It will be observed that the said portion a overlaps the upper edge of the stormcurtain and prevents an intervening space for the entrance of rain and also serves to shed the water.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a vehicle-top, the combination,with a quarter having its lower portion a free and a strip 0 attached to said portion a, of a stormcurtain constructed to be attached to said strip 0 and have its upper edge overlapped by the said portion a, substantially as shown, and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination, with a vehicle-top having the lower portion a of its quarter free and a strip 0, secured near its upper edge to the portion a, of the storm-curtain and complementary fastenings provided on the said strip 0 and the upper edge of the storm-curtain, substantially as shown, for the purpose set forth.
