CORN-SHOCKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 479,124, dated July 19, 1892. Application filed February 16, 1891- Serial No. 381,720%. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. MASON, a citizen of the United States, residing in Green Bay township, in the county of Clarke and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Corn-Shocking Machine, for which I have obtained no patent in any country, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved cornshocking device in which movable horizontal cross-arms operate in conjunction with an elevating-standard; and the objects of my invention are to provide, first, a substantial rest for the corn while it is being shocked; second, for the proper adjustment of the same to different heights; third, for the removing of the device from the shock. I attain these objects by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire apparatus; Fig. 2, a side view of the device as it appears after the removal of the crossarms and with main arm of machine in an up right position.

The standard A B of machine is in two parts joined together by two clasps c 0, one riveted to each end of standard A B, allowing opposite part of standard to slide through the clasp thus formed, besides holding the two firmlytogethenbythe means of which the arms j and H can be elevated or lowered, as desired, and regulated and held firmly, as desired, by set-screw D. The plates 0, of which there are two, are placed one on each side of rod H and the top point of standard'B and fastened firmly to the same by rivets. Rivet K constitutes a hinge by means of which the handle on arm H can be elevated or lowered, as seen in drawings, and also by means of which the standard is pulled out with the arm H. Plates 0 also ward off the corn from the point of standard B. The hole X in plates is located just in front of point of standard B, which by inserting rod j, in conjunction with rivet T, holds the machine in the position as seen in Fig. 1. Rivet T is so placed that it allows the machine to change from position 1 to 2, as seen in drawings, besides passing through the plates 0 low enough to strike the back of point of standard B.

In a corn-shocker, the combination, with a cross-arm H, pivoted through plates 0 to an extensible standard composed of bars A and B, clasps c c, and set-screw D, of a stop-pin T and a removable cross-arm j for locking the arm H- in horizontal position, all substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
