There are eight sets or groups I), b, and b of the perforating-punches B. The six sets or groups of punches b are operated by the six adjustable or revoluble matrix-rings D, certain of the punches of each group being operated by each of the matrix-faces d of each of the rings D and others not. The group of punches b is operated by the fixed matrix or plunger-D to print in perforated characters the word Paid, as illustrated in the machine shown in the drawings, and the group or set of punches b is operated by the fixed matrix or plunger D to print a signature, as B. F. G. 00., in the machineillustrated in the drawings; but of course, however, it will be understood that these fixed or non-changeable characters which are printed by the sets of punches b b and the matrices D D may be varied as desired or required.
The guides for the series of independentlymovable punches B consist of two fixed plates G and G, rigidly secu red to the frame plate or block A, and a soft-metal filling G molded in the guide case or receptacle G around the punches. The guide case or receptacle G is formed integral with the frame block A. The frame-block A, which carries the punchguides, is formed'with a shoulder a, so as to leave a space for the insertion of the sheet of paper over the die-plate O and under the guide-plate G. A movable or stripper guideplate Greciprocates in the space between the upper guide-plate G and the soft or molded guide G and serves to retract or withdraw the punches B by engaging the shoulder B thereon.

K is the cup or receptacle for receiving the punchings from the paper. It is provided with an eccentric flange la. and is secured in place by engaging the heads 10 of the pins7c fixed in the bed-plate A on the under side thereof. By means of this eccentric or camshaped flange lo the cup K may be removed and again replaced in position by simply giving it a slight turn.

It is furnished with a slot m for the handle-lever to project through and to permit of its operation. It is also furnished with a removable cap M for giving access to the locking-pins d,by which the revoluble or adjustable matrix-rings are turned or adjusted, as desired, and locked in position again. This cap M is furnished with sliding hinge-pins M which project through holes in the top of the cover M and which are provided with hooks or bent ends in to support the cap in the position indicated in the dotted lines in Fig. 3.
Intermediate between the sets or groups of punches which perforate the figures indicating the year and the month we arrange a group of I punches b for printing a period or other division-mark. A similar group b is arranged between the groups of punches which perforate the characters indicating the day of the month and those indicating the month. The group of punches b b are operated by the matrix-facesdof the matrix-rin gs D, a part of the punches of each group being operated by each of two adjoining rings D, so
that the period or character will be located midway between the year and month characters or the month and day characters, which are separated thereby.
The locking -pins (1' are furnished with knobs or handles (1 In operation these locking-pins are utilized as levers or handles for turning the rings D to bring the proper matrix-face into position for operation, the pin being of course first withdrawn from the shaft F.
The upper guide-plate G is furnished with an opening or notch g in one edge, in which the soft-metal filling G may be poured into the guide case or receptacle G in a molten condition around the punches B, or rather temporary pins put in place thereof, and while the same are in position and while the upper and lower guide-plates G and G are securely fixed to the frame block or plate A. As the guide-case G for the soft-metal guide or fill-t ing G is formed integrally with the frameblock A it requires no fixing or adjusting in position independently of said frame-plate A.
We claima 1. In aperforating-stamp, the combination, with two or more sets or groups of independently-movable perforating-punches and their corresponding single female die, of a single matrix-carrying lever furnished with one or more fixed matrix or plunger faces, and one or with two or more sets or groups of independently-movable perforating-punches and their correspondlng single female die, of a single matrix-carrying lever having two or more revoluble many-faced matrix-rings mounted to revolve upon said lever and simultaneously operated thereby, substantially as specified.
3. In a perforating-stamp, the combination, with a series of sets of independently-movable perforating-punches and their corresponding single female die, of the single operating-lever F, having fixed shaft or stud F, a series of revoluble many-faced matrix rings D,
mounted on said shaft F, and fixed matrix or plunger faces D D on said lever F, operating conjointly with the matrix-faces of said revoluble rings D, substantially as specified.
4. The dating and receipting or canceling perforating stamp comprising, in combination, six groups I) of independently-movable perforating-punches B and two additional groups b b of perforating-punches, a female die for all said punches, guides for all said punches, a common operating-lever F, six many-faced revoluble matrix-rings D, carried by said lever, and two matrix or plunger faces D D also carried by said lever, and a secondary or handle lever H for operating said lever F, substantially as specified.
5. The combination, in a perforating-stamp, with a series of groups of independentlymovable punches and their corresponding female die, of a guide for said punches, a bifurcated matrix-carrying'lever F, having shaft F, and a series of independently-revoluble matrix-rings D, mounted upon said lever for operating said groups of punches, substantially as specified.
6. The combination, in a perforating-stam p, with a series of groups of independentlymovable punches and their corresponding female die, of a guide for said punches, a matrix-carrying lever F, having shaft F, and a series of independently-revoluble m atrix-rin gs D, mounted upon said lever for operating said groups of punches, and a series of lockingpins'd, passing through holes in said rings and entering registering slots in said shaft F, substantially as specified.
7. The combination,in a perforating-stamp, with a series of groups of independentlymovable punches and their corresponding female die, of a guide for said punches, a matrix-carrying lever F, having shaft F, and a series of i ndependentl y-revoluble m atrix-ri n gs D, mounted upon said lever for operating said groups of punches, and a series of lockingpins d, passing through holes in said rings and entering registering openings in said shaft F, and a handle-lever H, connected to said lever F by a pivoted link 71, substantially as specified.
8. In a perforating-stamp, the combination, with a group of independentlymovable punches and their corresponding female die, of a guide for said punches, a reciprocating stripper or guide plate for retracting said punches, a movable plunger or matrix for operating said punches, and devices positively connecting said stripper-plate with said matrix or plunger, whereby said stripperplate is positively operated in both directions by said matrix or plunger, substantially as specified.
9. The combination, in a perforating-stamp, of a group of independently-movable punches B, their female die 0, a guide for said punches, a matrix and matrix-lever for operating said punches, a movable stripper-plate G for withdrawing said punches, and links 9 and crossbars g g, connecting said stripper-plate directly with said lever F, substantially as specified.
10. The combination, in a perforatingstamp, of punches and female die, with a bedplate A, to which the female die is secured, a frame plate or block A, carrying the guides for the punches, and a separate frame plate or block A having ears o to which the opcrating-lever is pivoted, and the operatinglever and the matrix-disks carried thereby, substantially as shown and described.
11. The dating and receipting or canceling perforating-stamp comprising, in combination, six groups I) of independently-movable perforating-punches B, a single or common female die for all said punches, guides for all said punches formed in a common guideblock G a common operating-lever F, six many-faced revoluble matrix-rings D, carried by said lever, and a secondary or handle lever H for operating said lever F, substantially as specified.
12. The dating and receipting or canceling perforating-stamp comprising, in combination, six groups I) of independently-movable perforating-punches B and two intermediate groups 19 b of perforating-punches, a single or common female die for all said punches, guides for all said punches formed in a common guide-block G a common operating-lever F, and six many-faced revoluble matrix-rings D, carried by said lever, said intermediate group ofpunches b and 12 being each in part operated bythe matrix-faces of two adjoining rings, substantially as specified.
13. In a perforating-stamp, the combination, with bed-plate A, having female die 0 secured thereto, of frame-plate A, furnished with guide-case G soft-metal guide G2 therein and upper and lower guides G G secured thereto, matrix-lever F, and a matrix or plunger earriedthereby for operating said punches, frame-block A having ears a to which said lever F is pivoted, and said frame-block A having standard A and a handle-lever H, pivoted thereto, for operating said lever F, substantially as specified.
14. In a perforating-stamp, the combination, with bed-plate A, having female die 0 secured thereto, of frame-plate A, furnished with guide-case G soft-metal guide G therein and upper and lower guide-plates G G secured thereto, matrix-lever F, and a matrix or plunger carried thereby for operating said punches, frame-block A having ears a to which said lever F is pivoted, said frame-block A having standard A, and a handle-lever H, pivoted thereto for operating said lever F, said handle-lever H being connected to said lever F by a link h and an eccentric pivot h substantially as specified.
15. In a perforating-stamp, the combination, with bed-plate A, having female die 0 secured thereto, of frame-plate A, furnished with guide-case G ,.soft-metal guide G2 therein, and upper and lower guide-plates G G, secured thereto, a movable stripper-plate G, re-
ciprocating in said guide-case G matrix-lever F, and a matrix or plunger carried there-- by for operating said punches, and links 9 and cross-bars g, connecting. said strippen.

18. In a perforating-stamp, the combination, with two or more sets or groups of independently-movable perforating-punches b b, of an intermediate'group 0tperforatingpunches 12 a common corresponding female die for all of said punches, and a single matrixcarrying lever having two or more revoluble many-faced matrix-rings mounted upon said lever, said intermediate group of punches 12 being part operated by each of two adjoining matrix-rings, substantially as specified.
