JOSEPH BRODA, OE MANNQHEIM, GERMANY.
MACHINE FOR PRESSING AND BUNDLING CIGARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,290, dated May 24, 1892.
Application iled August 14. 1890. Serial No. 362,024. (No model.) Patented in Germany February 13, 1890, No. 55,804.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BRoDA, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Mannheim, in the Grand Duchy of Baden and German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Pressing and Bundling Cigars, (patented in Germany on February 13, 1890, No. 55,8040 of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to apparatus for pressing and bundling cigars, and in the improved mechanism two motions only are necessary to effect these objects-namely, downward pressure of a lever and its subsequent release-the apparatus having movable sides and a movable bottom, whichis raised against a fixed lid or cover by draw-rods.
The invention is illustrated in the accontpanying drawings, in which- Figures I to III are, respectively, a front, partly in sectional elevation, a plan partly in section, and aside elevation, partly in section, thereof.
Upon a bedplate b there are supported the side cheeks c, which can be brought into close proximity to or separated from each other by means of a spindle d, formed with right and left hand screw-threads and passing therethrough. Two longitudinal bars m and two carry a bottom or base la, and in the apparatus there is further provided a rail Z, having an end plate c, the rail being capable of sliding to and fro upon the bed-plate b. Coverplates e are placed over the side cheeks c, each plate extending from one cheek to the other and having slots at its ends, through which the screws binding it to the cheeks pass.
In using the apparatus the cheeks c are brought into position by turning the screwthreaded spindle d, and the bottom lc is adjusted by turning the nuts on the draw-rods g, so as to put greater or less compression on thesprings h, and the back wall or plate c is 'adjusted by moving the rail Z. The cigars are then placed in the space so formed between the cover e, bottom lo, and side Walls c, into which the tying band or ribbon is previously introduced, and the levers f are pressed downward, the tying-up of the band being subsequently effected, whereupon the levers f are released andthe finished bundle is withdrawn.
The improved apparatus can be set up upon any sorting-table and removed after use,'and it can be employed to malte bundles ot' any desired size.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An apparatus for use in pressing and buning in a way in the bed-plate, substantially 8o as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH BRODA. Witnesses:
WM. WIssEY, ROBERT GROPP.
