BLAST-BOARD FOR CLOVER-HULLING MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent No. 474,604, dated May 10, 1892.

Be it known that I, JOHN N. KAILOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Bartholomew and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Blast-Boards for Clover-Hulling Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in blast-boards for clover-hulling machines.
The object of myimprovement is to provide, in connection with a cloVer-hulling machine, a blast-board for directing the current of air from the blast-fan to the sieves, which shall be arranged in the path of the front carrying- Wheels, on which the machine is mounted when said Wheels are turned beneat-h the machine, and shall be capable of yielding to the passage of said Wheels.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my 1nvention.
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of the front part of a clover-hulling machine having my improved blast-board. Fig. 2 is a v1ew in perspective of the blast-board detached from the machine.
In the drawings, A indicates the frame of the machine, of which the cross-beam B forms a part.
O represents the front axle, and D one of the carrying-wheels which support the machine. The sides of the main frame are cut away on its under side, as at E, so that in turning the machine in moving from place to place the wheel D may pass beneath the main frame, as illnstrated in dotted lines, Fg. 1.
The blast-fan F is located at the forward end of the machine above the front axle and carrying-wheels, and the current of air passes therefrom across the opening made in the main frame for the passage of the carrying- Wheels to the separating-chamber H. The blast-board I forms the bottom of this ai r-pas- Sage. As heretofore constructed, said blastboard has consisted, practically, of a single piece hinged at one edge, as at J, to |the crossbeam B, and, extending across the opening E in the 'main frame, rests upon the verticallyadjustable arm K, mounted on shaft L, extending from side to side of the main frame, and having on the outside suitable means (not shown) for holding the arm K at any desired angle of elevation. Vhen constructed in this manner, the blast-board interferes with the free movement of the front axle and its Wheels in turning the machine. For the purpose of avoiding` this difficulty I construct the blast-board in two parts M and N, Fig. 2. Said parts are hinged together, edge to edge, on the under side, and part N, which forms the front edge of the blast-board, is hinged to the cross-beam B. A blast-board is thus formed, which, when extended, as shown in full lines, Fig. 1, moves as one piece when raised at its free edge by the arm K, but which, when engaged by the front wheel When, the machine is turned, is pushed upward by the wheel at the point where its two parts are hinged together, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig'. 1, and which assumes its normal position when the wheel passes out from under it.
I claim as my invention In a clover-hulling machine, the combination, with the main frame, the air-passage formed thereon, and the front carrying-wheels arranged to intrude on said passage in turning from side to side, of the folding blastboard consisting of a wide and a narrow part hinged together edge to edge and forming the So bottom of said passage, said uarrow part being hinged to the main frame and arranged in the path of the Wheels, whereby the bottom of the air-passage is adapted to he raised by the Wheels, as set forth.
