SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 474,409, dated May 10, 1892.

Application filed March 23, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, CHARLES H. REED, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Glove Fasteners, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,'is a specilication.

This invention relates to improvements in glove fasteners for the purpose of readily drawing together the wrist portion of Biarritz non-slitted or whole-wristed gloves and to hold and secure it in such gathered or closed position, and also for the purpose of readily unfastening the glove preparatory to removing it from the hand of the wearer.

The invention, although especially designed for glove purposes, may to equal advantage be used as a fastening device for corsets, waists, belts, or garments or Wearing-apparel of any kind.

The invention is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l represents a side view showing the palm side of a Biarritz nonslitted or wholewristed .glove provided with my improved fastener. Fig. 2 represents an enlarged longitudinal section on the line X X, shown in Fig. l; and Fig. 3 represents a plan View of Fig. 2. Figs. 4 and 5 represent detail perspective views of the improved fasteners.

Similar letters refer to similar parts wherever they occur on the different parts of the drawings.

It is very desirable to provide gloves of the kind above mentioned and garments or Wearing-apparel with means for readily drawing or gathering portions thereof together and in such a manner as to secure such glove or garment in its closed position, for which purpose I construct my invention as follows:

A represents an ordinary Biarritz non-slitted or whole-wristed glove.

The improved fastener consists of two metallic plates B and C. The plate B has an outwardly projecting and centrally perforated convex or cup-shaped portion or blister B', which is attached to the wrist portion of the glove or part of the garment by means of Serial ITol 426,054. (No model.)

a rivet or eyelet B, as shown in the drawings. The object of the outwardly-projecting blister B is to allow the fabric to be drawn up inside the under side of said blister, making, by means of the eyelet passing through the fabric, a double lock. This also prevents the lower head of the rivet or eyelet B from projecting below the under side of the fabric, thus presenting a smooth inside of the glove or garment, and thereby preventing said rivet or eyelet from scratching the hands when the glove is put on, worn, or withdrawn. The plate B has a side extension B3, terminating as a cup-shaped perforated cord-holder B4, to which the cord D is secured by passing it through the perforation in said part B4 and making a knot d on its end, which latter is retained in the hollow of said cup shaped part B4, thus retaining a smooth and even surface of the glove or garment where said knot is located, also making it possible to instantly adjust a new cord, if desired. The other part of the fastener-the metal plate C- is likewise provided with an outwardlypro jecting and centrally-perforated convex or cup-shaped portion or blister C', which is attached to the wrist portion of the glove or part of the garment by means of a rivet or eyelet O in the same manner and for the same purpose as heretofore described relative to the plate B.

C3 is a hooked side extension on the plate C, as shown.

These improved fasteners possess the advantage of being applied to gloves or tubular garments after they are finished and without the need of ripping up any seams, thus avoiding resewng of such glove or garment after the improved fasteners have been attached.

To gather, draw together, or close the glove or garment, it is only necessary to place the free end of the cord D around the hook C and to pass it under or below that part of the cord which is outside of the said hook, as shown in Fig. 1, and to secure the cord'in its drawn position it is only necessary to pass it once more around the hook and to pull it in locked position, as fully shown by dotted lines in said Fig. 1. be fastened to the hook C in any other manner as may suit the wearer Without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described the nature, construction, and operation of my invention, I Wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim- The herein-described glove or garment 'fastener, consisting of a pair of cup-shaped metallic plates and eyelets or rivets for securing them to the garment, one of said plates having an extension terminating as a perforated cup-shaped cord-holder, a cord secured to the latter, and a hook on the other plate for securing to it the eord, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
