G. H. DIGKSON 8c M. S. HOPKINS. MANUFACTURE OF GAS GOVERNORS.
No. 473,063. Patented Apr. 19,1892,
Wm awe/bow 6mm Elh' zwxwg I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. DICKSON AND MARCUS S. HOPKINS, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MANUFACTURE OF GAS-GOVERNORS.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,063, dated April 19, 1892,
Application filed August 31, 1891. Serial No. 404,260. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, CHARLES H. DICKSON and MARCUS S. HOPKINS, of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Gas-Governors or Fluid-Pressure Regulators, of which the following .is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
One object of our invention isto produce a casting of such form that it will embody the principal fixed parts of a gas-governor in one single piece, so that the minimum of labor, material, and expense will be involved in the manufacture of the fixed parts. Besides this, the structure of our casting is improved, so that it is adapted for the simplest and cheapest form and arrangements of the movable parts of a gas-govern or, thus reducing the cost of the entire machine. Furthermore, in the principal fixed parts we avoid all joints, and thus provide for the manufacture of a governor that will be absolutely tight.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 a diametrical section, illustrating our improved casting.
Referring to the letters on the drawings, A indicates the shell of the casting, which is provided with an internal cylinder B, between which and the shell is an annular space for the reception of a liquid to float and inverted cup or drum, as usual.
0 indicates a lower cross-piece to serve for a valve-spindle guide, and D indicates an upper cross piece for a similar purpose, these 33 cross-pieces each after casting to be provided with central holes for the spindle.
E indicates a side lug, and F a bottom lug, projecting from the shell, which are both open and adapted to he screw-threaded for mak- 4o ing pipe connections in the usual manner.
'X indicates a valve-seat, which is a part of the casting, but of course requires truing, polishing, and finishing after thecasting operation. I
What we claim is An integral casting suitable for the manufacture of the fixed parts of a gas-governor, consisting of the shell A, the cylinder B, the open bottom lug F and the open side lug E, guide cross-pieces C and D over the lug F, and the'valve-seat X, formed by the bottom of the lug F, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of all which we have hereunto subscribed our names.
' CHARLES H. DICKSON.
MARCUS S. HOPKINS.
