JACOB E. GONSER, OF LA OTTO, INDIANA.
' GATE ROLLER AND HINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,045, dated March 1, 1892.
Application filed June 8, 1891. Serial No. 395,590- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB E. GONSER, of La Otto, in the county of Noble and State of I11- diana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gate Rollers and Hinges; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in a combined rollerandhinge forswinging and rolling gates. Heretofore such a device has been employed consisting of a block provided with journals at its ends and a j ournal at its center, a double-flange pulley mounted on the center journal, and two eyebolts to receive the end journals and to be driven into the post.
The object of my invention is to improve this old construction and to provide a hinge and roller more simple, cheap, and durable, and composed of a less number of parts than such old construction, and which can be attached or detached with great ease, is very strong and durable, and is so constructed that the spindle-bracket can be removed easily and without taking the securing-bracket from the post. my invention consists in, certain novel features of construction and in combinations of parts more fully described hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective showing the wheel or roller and its support separately. Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the roller in position.
The invention comprises the securingbracket cast or otherwise formed in one piece and composed of the body portion a, formed flat and elongated to fit the post, provided at its outer ends with bolt-holes to receive the securing means, and near its ends with the two parallel laterally-extending arms 0, having at their outer ends the transverse bearings 19, the upper bearing formed with the radial slot or recess 6.

ing bracket and extends outwardly from the central portion thereof. The roller it: has an inwardly-extending hub fitted upon said spindle and held thereon by the pin j, and an annular inwardly-extending outer portion forming the rim provided with two parallel exterior annular flanges j to receive the rails of the gate and allowthe same to move back and forth on the roller while the pivoted bracket allows the gate to be swung laterally and opened. By means of this construction the swinging bracket can be easily and quickly removed, even after the securing-bracket has been bolted or otherwise secured to the post by turning said bracket until its projecting rib his located opposite the radial recess of the bearing, and then lifting the bracket until its lower end is released from the securingbracket.
The securing-bracket can be quickly and easily attached to the post by any person with the swinging bracket and roller removed therefrom. After the bracket has been securely fastened in position by wood-screws, bolts, or v provided with bolt-holes, and the two parallel arms extending therefrom provided with transverse bearings, the upper bearing hav ing a radial peripheral recess, the swinging bracket bent inwardly at its central portion and provided with journals at its ends to fit said brackets, the upper journal having a longitudinal projecting rib beneath the portion of the journal normally located in the bear- I In testimony that I claim the foregoing as ing and adapted to register with said recess, my own I aflix my signature in presence of whereby the swingmg bracket is removable two Witnesses.
