Description
(N0 Model.)
H. H. .LUSH FILTERING PAUGET.
UNrrnn STATES- PATENT. OFFICE.
HENRY H. LUSE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
FlLTERlNG-FAUCET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,004, dated March 1, 1892. Application filed July 15, 1890. Serial No. 358,862. (No model.)
T0 all whom t may con/cern,.-
Be it known that I, HENRY H. LUsE,a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have inventeda new and useful Filtering-Faucet, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of filtersin which the impurities contained in the iiuid that is collected on one face thereof is carried off by reversing or changing the position of lthe faucet.
My invention consists, essentially, in chambering the cock or plug of the faucet and permanently fixing the filtering material therein, the ,object being to produce acheap and rapid means of collecting and discharging the impurities contained in Water and otherv fiuids. I accomplish this object by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of my filtering-faucet, partlybroken away. Fig. 2 is a side view of the plug or cock.
The faucet which I employ is of the ordinary construction, having the usual conical or tapering plug and ground to its seat in the barrel thereof. The plug or cock A, however, is cast with a rectangular opening or chamber C, extending through the plug. Intersecting slots D communicate with this chamber, divid ing the sides of it lengthwise, a core being employed in casting the plug to form a slot of suitable thickness toreceive when removed 'a thin sheet of line. Woven meshed wire or perforated plate E, and this meshed Wire or perforated plate constitutes the filtering medium' which I employ, and the edges thereof should be of sufficient thickness to fit the slots closely and butt against the ends of the chamber, so
that no leakage Will take 'place above or below the meshed plate or through the sides of the plug after the latter is ground to its seat in the faucet. It will thus be seen that when the filteringr medium is in position the chamberC is divided centrally, and a chamber upon each side of the plate is formed to receive and retain the collected impurities, which are expelled or carried off and out of the faucet by reversing the cock or plugbefore drawing the liquid from the source of supply. For instance, when the lever of the cock is at the right hand reverse or turn it to theleftoruntil the position is at a right angle with the faucet-barrel, when the force of water wili carry off the dbris which has been collected in 'the chamber when this lever Was in a reverse position.
In orderto provide for free discharge of the fluid through the faucet, rectangularopenings F F are made in the faucet-barrel above and below the plug to. correspond in size with the chamber C of the plug when the latter is in position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a filtering-faucet, the combination, with a plug formed of one integral piece having a chamber C extending directly through it in line with the opening in the faucet and anarrow transverse slit D cut through it at right angles to the chamber, of a filter-piece E, fitted into said slit, substantially as set lforth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
HENRY H. LUSE. [L 5.] Witnesses: I
C. W. M. SMITH, CHAS. E. KELLY.
