JULIUS ERBEAU, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR 'IO II. MUHRS SONS, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-CASE SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 469,660, dated February 23, 1892. Application filed April 20, 1891. Serial No. 389,660. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J ULIUS ERBEAU, a citizen of Switzerland, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylva nia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in IVatch-Case Springs, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in watch-case springs; and it consists of a spring formed of lifting and locking parts, the lifting part having a recessed spring portion and with both of its ends bearing on the locking part, the latter carrying the catch for holding the front cap of the watch in closed condition.
Figure 1 represents a section of a portion of a watch-case, showing a two-part spring embodying my invention in operative position therein. Fig. 2 represents a perspective View of said spring. Fig. 3 representsa view of the catch portion of the spring.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding partsin the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the back cap of a watch-case and B the front cap thereof. In the center 0 of the back cap, fitting snugly thereon, is the sectional or twopart spring D, consisting of the lifting part E and the locking part F, the latter having the catch G thereon. The lifting part E has both of its ends bearing against the ends of the locking part, so as to force the catch G on the same in contact with the inner edge of the rim of the front cap B, so as to hold the same in closed position until the stem II from the front cap. A portion of the lifting 40 part E is cut away or reduced on its inner edge, as at J, forming a strip at the crown of the spring, and the opposite side of the center of said reduced portion has a projecting lip K, which is engaged by a toe L of the front cap in such manner that when the latter is being closed said toe L presses against the lip K, depressing the spring at that point; but when the front cap is released from the catch G the said lip K bears against the toe L, thus throwing open the front cap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A watch-case spring consisting of a lifting part and a locking part having shoulders thereon, the said lifting part fitting snugly in the case and havingacut-away or recessed portion forming a spring-strip with a lip thereon for engaging the front cap of the watch-case, the rear ends of said lifting part being in contact with and bearing against the locking part, substantially as described.
