UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY LEVY, OF NElV YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ADOLPH IllRSl-I, OF SAME PLACE.
CLASP FOR HOLDING COVERS ON PICTU RE-FRAM ES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 467,702, dated January 26, 1892.
Application filed December 27 1890- Serial No. 375,959 (No model.)
T at whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, HENRYLEVY, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State "of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Holding Covers on Picture-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to securing devices for the covering of frames by which gauze or any other material for covering such frames may be held securely thereto, of which Figure 1 is a view of the rear of a pictureframe with my attachment secured; Fig. 2, an enlarged view ofvthe attachment; Fig. 3, a sectional View taken on line a; 00 of Fig. 2.
My attachment consists of a triangular frame A, made of light brass or other suitable material and provided with upright proj ections a, to which is pivoted or hinged longitudinally with the frame a metallic strip provided with teeth or suitably ratcheted, the lower part of the frame being also provided with a corresponding strip having teeth or ratchets which register with the hinged portion above. The upper or hinged portion cooperates with spring a so that it may be opened and closed at will, and when closed may be held in contact with the lower por-' tion by the tension of the spring. If the spring is strong enough to secure the covering of the picture, the teeth or ratchets may be dispensed with. b is a thumb-piece for convenience in openingand closing the hinged portion of the device.
It will thus be seen that any picture and frame may be covered by placing upon the rear of each of the corners of the picture-frame or at other suitable places thereon my device, as above described; or if placed midway between the corners one-half of the device may be secured to the rear of the frame by lifting the thumb-piece, the covering may be inserted, the clasp closed thereon, the covering passed over the frame in front, then around 5 the opposite side of the frame, and attached to another clasp of a similar character. The covering is thus securely held.
hat I claim is In aframe-covering device,a seriesof hinged 5o clasps secured to the frame, in combination with means for securing the clasps when closed, substantially as described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 12th day of December, A. D. 1890.
HENRY LEVY.
