' C. A. ERIKSON.
BLEGTRIG GAME REGISTER FOR POOL TABLES.
No. 466,058. Patented Dec. 29, 1891 Win-49.5555.
Unrrnn STAins Farnri'r @rrtent CARL AUGUST ERIKSON, OF NElV BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT.
ELEGTREC GAME=REGESTER FOR PGOL=TABLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No 466,058, dated December 29, 1891. Application flied August 2&, 1891. Serial No. 403,557- (No model) To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CARL Aneusr Eainson, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented newand useful Improvements in Electric Indicators for Pool-Tables, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification.
This invention relates to in'iproveinents in electric indicators for pool-tables, and it is carried out as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, showing the device partly in section and elevation.
A represents the head portion of a poettable, as usual. Above the same, preferably to the ceiling of the room,is secured a box B, in which is journaled a roller C. Above the roller 0 is suspended in a suitable manner a pin, plug, or button D, and above the latter are located yielding metal electrodes E and F, which are normally held from contact with each other, as shown in the drawing, said electrodes being preferably secured to the respective binding-posts e andf, from which the respective wires G H lead to bindingposts 9 It on the electric dial-register I, which latter may be made of any well-known construction and provided with a movable pointer 2', adapt ed to be intermittently moved by the closing of the circuit.
K is the electric battery arranged in the circuit.
L is the usual triangle inwhich the balls are placed upon the pool-table previous to commencing the game. Said triangle has attached to it a cord, chain, or wire M, leading over the p ulleyor guide C and having attached to its other end, preferably, a balance or counter Weight M, so as to cause the triangle to be normally suspended at a proper height above the table, so as not to interfere with the players. Instead of the counter-weight M,
the roller 0 may be provided with a spring, similar to ordinary curtain-shade spring fixtures, in which case one end of the cord,- chain, or Wire M is to be attached to the said roller. To the cord M is secured at one place upon it aball or projection m, which comes in contact with the plug or button D when the triangle L is pulled down far enough to be placed in position on the table, as shown in dotted lines, causing said plug I) to be moved outward sufficiently to bring the electrodes E and F together, by which the circuit is closed and a register made on the dial by the pointer on theregister device. After the balls have been located on the table the triangle is removed and will be drawn upward to its normal position by the weight M or spring or roller C, as may be desired, and so on, thus making an automatic register on the dial for each game that is played.
In the drawing I have shown the registering device as applied for registering the number of games on one pool-table only; but this is not essential, as the registering device may be provided with additional dials or indexpbinters, so as to connect it for operation with any desired number of pool-tables without departing from the essence of my invention; also, if desired, a registering device may be used which will indicate the number of games played on all the tables during any given time-such as, for instance, the number of games played during the day or week or portions thereof.
Having thus fully described the nature, construction, and operation of the invention, I wish to secure by Letters Patent and claim- The herein described electric game-indicator for pool-tables, consisting of a triangle attached to a cord, chain, or wire and having a knob or projection thereon, aroller on which said cord is guided, and a movable circuitcleser adapted to be operated by said knob or projection for the purpose of closing the circuit of a battery, and a registering device in the circuit having a movable pointer for registering the games, substantially as herein set forth and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 5th day of August, A. D. 1891.
CARL AUGUST ERIKSON.
