JEAN MALO, OF MONTREAL, CANADA.
SWIMMING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,007, dated December 29, 1891.
Application filed June 24, 1889. $erial No. 315,570. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEAN MALO, a citizen of Canada, residing at Montreal,in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented a new and useful Swimming-lVIachine--The Cyclinatof which the following is a specification.
The cyclinat consists in a motor'of propulsion supported at a certain depth under the water by a floating system.
Figure 1 of the drawings hereto annexed represents a side View of the machine. Fig. 2 is a front View.
F F are two (2) tubular floaters made of tin and divided in water-tight compartments to insure safety in case of accidents.
S is a flexible plate of metal having the form given on the drawings, which has forits object to support the motor of propulsion under the floaters F F by the intermediate of a screw-rod T. The screw-rod T is finished at its upper end by a plate N.
The motor of propulsion consists of a screw H, secured to a shaft 0, to which is fixed a pinion P, gearing with a cog-wheel E. To the shaft of the cog-wheel R are fixed two (2) handles m m. The little wheel 10 is used to maintain the stability of the Wheel B when the latter is in movement. I
The motor of propulsion is securely fixed to a frame A B, as shown on the drawings.
The two (2) nuts 6 e are used to raise or lower the motor of propulsion under the surface of the water, and consequently the plate N, which is at the top of the screw-rod T.
The swimmer, when wanting to use the machine, begins by fixing the plate at the proper height With the nuts 8 e. Then placing himself on the machine so that his stomach rests upon the plate N he puts the motor in move What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a swimmingmaohine, the combination of two parallel tubular floats connected by a downwardly-curved brace and a vertical screw-rod passing centrally through said brace, the upper end thereof having a body support or rest thereon, the lower end thereof engaging with suitable propelling mechanism.
2. A swimming-machine having a supporting-frame and tubular parallel floats connected by a downwardly-curved brace, avertically-adjustable body support or rest on said brace, and a horizontal shaft supported in said frame and having a propeller at its forward end and pinions at its opposite end, which engage a gear-wheel mounted 'on a transverse crank-shaft.
JEAN MALO.
