J. BRQWNB'AGK.
OVEN PLATE.
Patented Deo. 15;, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT` OFFICE.
JAMES BROVNBACK, OF LINFIELD, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE MAROH-BROWNBAOK STOVE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
OVEN-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N c4 465,42 4, dated December 15, 1891.
Application iiled June 23, 1891. vSerial No. 397.179. (No model.)
.To all whom t may concern:
Be it Aknown that I, JAMES BROWNBACK, a
citizen of Linfield, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oven-Plates; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to an improvement in stoves, and more particularly to an improved oven-plate, its object being to provide an oven-plate made in two parts and secured together by means of an expansion-joint.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
In ihe accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan View of my improved oven-plate, Fig. 2 is a view on the line a; x of Fig. 1.
A A indicate two sections of the oven-plate, each being provided on its top face with ribs or projections ct, on which a pan or other article may rest, and by means of which said article may be prevented from comingvinto contact with the face of the plate, whereby a current of air will be permitted to circulate bet-Ween the pan or other article and the plate.
The section A of the plate is provided at one edge with a ledge l), and through this ledge perforations c c are made for the reception of securing-pins, as presently explained.
The section A of the plate is provided at or near one edge with a groove d and perforations d. Projecting from the edge of the part A is a series of two or more ears e, having perforations e', which, when the plates are placed together, align with the perforations c' of the ledge b of the plate A. The plates A A being put together, pins are inserted through the perforations c d and c e', thus securing the two plates together. The groove scribed an expansion-joint between the two sections will be provided, and a plate will be produced, which will be very simple in construction and easy to manufacture.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. As an article of manufacture, an ovenplate made in sections, one section provided with a ledge on one of its edges, and one sec` tion provided witha groove near one edge, said groove adapted to be overlapped by the ledge and the parts adapted to be secured to` gether, substantially as set forth.
'2. As an article of manufacture, an ovenplate composed of sect-ions, said sections made thin at their adjacent edges, one edge provided with a groove, rand the two adaptedto be secured together with the groove between them, substantially as set forth.
3. An oven-plate made in two or moresecf tions, one of said sections being provided with a ledge and the other section having a groove near its meeting edge, ears on the latter-nam ed section, and pins adapted to pass through perforations in the ledge of one section and the ears of the other section, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib-` ing witnesses.
