QALLLN.` BARREL STAND.
No. 464,487. Patented Deo. 8, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
CHARLES ALLEN, OF ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS.
BARREL-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,487, dated December 8, 1891.
Application nea March 28,1891. sem No. 386,730. (No mai.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, CHARLES ALLEN, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Rock Island, in the county of Rock Island and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Barrel-Slings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an oscillating and vertically-adjustable barrel-sling that can be moved about with ease and be tilted or adjusted vertically to any desired position, so that a barrel supported thereon can be readily drained of its contents.
The invention consists in au oscillating and vertically-adjustable barrel-sling and in the construction and combination of devices, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a perspective of a barrel-sling illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a frame or stand of any suitable construction and supported'on rollers or casters 2, by which it can be readily moved about. At each end of the frame l isastandard 3, having vertical guideways 4, between which is received a vertically-sliding block 5, provid ed with guides 6 to engage said guideways. Each vertically-sliding block 5 is securely engaged with the lower end of a Vertical screw-shaft 7, supported in a bearing 8 at the top of the standard. On each screwshaft 7 above the bearing is a hand-nut or hand-wheel 9, by which said shaft can be made to raise and lower the attached block. The vertically-sliding blocks 5 are perforated transversely to receive the trunnions l0 of a sling 11, on which the barrel is to be supported. On the inner sides of the blocks 5 the trunnions 10 are provided with collars 12 that may be tightened against said blocks by means of hand-nuts or hand-wheels 13 on the outer threaded ends of said trunnions, thus securing the sling 11 in any position to which it may have been oscillated or tilted while said hand-nuts or hand-wheels were loose. The sling 11 may be of any suitable form; but is preferably composed of durable metal bars firmly riveted together and arranged in concaved or basket shape to receive and hold a barrel. By means of the hand-nuts 9 the sling ll and the-barrel supported thereon Acan be adjusted vertically to any desired eleva- 'inclined or swinging adjustments of the oscillating sling 1ll are also of great service in enabling a filled barrel to be placed in the lowered and inclined sling without much eX- ertion. After the barrel has been placed in the sling it can be adjusted to any desired position, and by means of its rollers or casters the stand can be moved to its proper location in a wareroom.
What I claim as my invention isv 1. The combination, with a. stand or supporting-frame having vertical guideways and verticallyadjustable blocks engaged with said guideways, of an oscillating barrel-sling having trunnions supported in said blocks and means for securing the sling in an inclined position, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a stand or supporting-frame having vertical guideways and vertically sliding or adjustable blocks engaged with said guideways, of screw-shafts and hand-nuts for imparting a vertical adjustment to said blocks, an oscillating barrelsling having trunnions supported in said vertically-adjustable blocks, and means for securing the sling in the position to which it is inclined or adjusted, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with a stand or supporting-frame having vertically-adjustable guideways and vertically-adjustable blocks engaged with said guideways, of an oscillating barrel-sling having trunnions supported in said blocks and hand-wheels on the screwthreaded ends of said trunnions to secure the sling in an inclined position, substantially as described.
. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES ALLEN. [L s] Witnesses:
F. II. L. BAHNsEN, A. J. ALLEN.
