B0 in known that I, ISRAEL LIOHTINGER, a subjeet of the King 0f Denma1k, residing a1: Oopenhagen, in the Kingdom 0f Denmark, have invented eertain new und useful Improvements in Oigar-Tip Formers; und I do hereby declare the following t0 100 21 fu11, 01ear, and exact deseription of the invention, such as will enable others ski11ed in the 211t so whieh it appertains t0 make a.nd use ehe same.

This invention relates t0 a machine for the manufaoture of the ends to hand-rolled eigars. As is well-known, the so-called hand-made cigars 211e rolled in such a, way thauthe operator must roll the cigar, which is then put in paper and plaeed. aside f01' a short time, in order t0 be rolled in an outside leaf Iarer on. In putting 011 this outside leaf the operator is himself obliged to form the end of the cigar, whieh occupies 21 comparatively longtime, and sinee in forming the end several 1eaves m:1y be torn this system of manufactu1e cuses 21 somewhatconsiderable loss in hand-rolled cigars. By the use of the unde1- mentioned machine which forms the end before the outside leaf is put 011, und. also 011 aecoun 0f the suving of outside leaves since they are thus not torn, hand-made cigars 02m be manufactured by this machine at a saving of about thirty-three per cent. in wages, und its application has at the szune time the advantage 0f tu1ning out a good and symmetrically-shaped cigar.

The machine is shown in the aceompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 represents 21 front view of the machine, partly in vertical section; and Fig. 2 shows the machine side view und pmtl3, also, in perpendieular seetion.

In the eylinder H tw0 pairs 0f matrices I and J a1e arranged. The matrices J are suspended by the aid 0f pinsj in ho1es in the 0aps E, while the 1natriees I are suspended by the aid of pins 11 in holes in the matrices J. The matrices can thus be neither moved upwamd n0r downward, but on1y pushed in pairs side by side. If the cylinder H is moved upward, it will first press the matrices J against each other and then the matriees I against each other. If the cylinder is pushed downward, Ehe guiding-bolts p and q, fixed in the matrices, will be pushed toward eaeh other, and thus the matrices will be separated from ea0h other. If th.e cylinder H is moved upward, it earries with it a rod S, whi0h slides in 21 Sheath T, and the point R of this-rod pierces the cigar in such a way that one can always be sure that n0 air Will penetrate int0 pointed end 0f acigar, Which otherwise often eauses diffieulties. When the end is formed to the ciga.r and the cylinder is again pushed downw'rd, the rod S can be lifted by means 0f the lever P, Whi0h turns 011 the upright; O, and thus shoot out the manufactured cigars.

In the applieation of this machine it should be remarked thab the matrices J a1*e first closed aroui1d t-he matrices I in such a way that they next serve so guide the pwo matrices I, forming two half-molds when the latter are directed toward eaoh other, thus avoid the uneven edge 0f the 1eaf lengthwise.

Having fu11y described my invention, what I desire 130 claim, and se0ure by Letters Patent, is
