Description

ATTORNEY.

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
THOMAS S. BROVN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
LuBRloAToR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of 'Letters Patent No. 463,416, dated November 1'7, 1891. Application filed May 20,1891. Serial No. 393,403. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.- .Beit known that I, THOMAS S. BROWN, citizen of the United States, residinglin the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Penn- Sylvania, have invented a new and useful Im- `lubricator with the cap or lid removed. Fig.
4 represents a plan view of the body of the lubricator. Fig. 5 represents a partial section and partial side elevation of the wick of the lubricator and the stiffening therefor.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a lubricator or oil-cup composed of a body portion B and an annular lid orfcap C, the latter being secured to the body by screws, bolts, or other suitable means. In said body are the chambers D, the ends whereof are enlarged, as at E, and the lid C is provided with passages or grooves F on the inner face thereof, communicating with the end portions E of the chambers I).
G designates wicks, which are inserted in the passages F in the lid and have their ends, which are stiifened by means of plugs H, of wood or other suitable material, inserted in the enlarged portions E of the chambers D. The cup A, which is in the form of a collar, is mounted on the sleeve J, which furnishes a bearing for the pulley K, with which said cup The oil which is placed in the chambers D is absorbed by the wicks G, so
as to be brought'in contact with the sleeve J,v
with which the said wicks are in contact, and thus passes between the hub of the pulley and the said sleeve.
L designates a drip-cup surrounding the sleeve J and which receives the oil as it escapes through the joint lWI at the lower end of 5o the hub. A screw-plug N closes an outlet in the lower portion of said cup.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. An oil-cup or lubricator having a body portion encircling a bearing for a pulley, &c., and provided with chambers, an annular lid lwith passages or grooves on its inner wall,
and a wick passing through said groove in the 6o lid and having` its ends insertedin the ends of the chambers, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. An oil-cup or lubricator consisting of a tubular body with chamber therein having an opening in its inner wall, a cap or lid adapted to close the end of said chamber and provided with a groove having its ends communicating with said chamber in. the body,
an absorbent in said groove and chamber, and 7c stiffeners connected with the ends of said absorbent in' said chambers, said parts being combined substantially as`described.
3. The combination of a tubular bodywith a chamber therein having an opening in its 7 5 inner wall, a sleeve on which said body is mounted, a cap or lid secured to one end of said body and havinga groove with ends communicating with said chamber, an absorbent in said groove with ends having stieners in 8o said chamber, and a drip-cup on said sleeve, said parts being combined substantially as described.
