FILTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,984, dated October 13, 1891.
Application filed Jun 17,1889- Serial No. 314,660. (No model.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER McCUTcH- EON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Emporia, in the county of Lyon and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Cistern-Filter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a water-filter for cisterns; and the objects are, first, a complete filter; second, to afford complete facilities for the separation of all impure or foreign substances, and, third, to e11- able one to easily dispose of all impure substances.
Figure 1 represents the entire filter; Fig. 2, the ground plan of it, and Fig. 3 a transverse section of it.
A represents the sides of the box; B, its ends; 0, its bottom; D, the lid of the box; E, the water-pipe from rcof to filter; F, the pipe from filter to cistern; G, the brick tile; H, cock to clean filter; I, the overflow-pipe; K, the galvanized-iron frame; L, the cement joints; M, the space between the bottom and the galvanized frame.
To obtain these results, the wooden box A is made two and a half feet high, four feetlong, and two feet wide, and its entire inside is lined with galvanized iron. The galvanized iron frame K is placed in the box one inch above the bottom and supported at the sides by brackets attached to the sides of the box, thereby allowing the water in M to pass through the pipe F to the cistern. The water after being conveyed to the box passes through the tile G. The tile is supported by the frame K and cemented, as represented at I4.
To cleanse the filter, open the lid D and stop cock H, and impurities can easily be removed by washing the tile.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent 1s A cistern-filter having a galvanized-iron lining and a galvanized-iron frame secured therein, so as to leave a space or interval between the bottom of the filter and the frame, in combination with the brick tiling having cemented joints and supported upon the said frame, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
ALEXANDER MCCUTGHEON.
