Description

R. P. FORD. PAINT BUCKET.
(No Model.)
HTM
Patented Slept.. 8, 189%.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT P. FORD, OF ASHLAND, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO VENDEL MEINHART, OF SAME PLACE.
PAI NT-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 459,329, dated September 8, 1891.
Application filed October 17, 1890. Serial No. 368,337. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom, zit may concern:
Be it vknown that I, ROBERT P. FORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashland, in the county of Boyd and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Paint-Bucket, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in paint-buckets adapted to be used to by tinners and painters during the operation of painting roofs.
The objects of the invention are to provide a bucket adapted to stand level upon a roof regardless of its incline'and which will r 5 not slip by reason of such inclination.
With the above objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a paint bucket constructed in accordance with my invention, the same being upon a roof. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the bucket.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in both figures of the drawings.
l designates a paint bucket or vessel of proper size and shape, and provided with the usual lifting-bail 2.
On the outside of the bucket, at opposite points thereof, there are secured to the bucket two pairs of vertically-opposite keepers 3, each pair being occupied by a loosely-fitting sliding standard et. The standards are connected at their upper and lower ends by cross-bars 5, and at their centers by a bridge 6, which spans the distance between said standards and is centrally perforated and provided with a set-screw 7.
Secured to the bucket between the pairs of standards and opposite the bridge-piece is a plate 8, having a series of vertically-aligning perforations 9, each of which is adapted to receive the inner end of the set-screw.
The lower ends of the standards 4 may be provided with rubber pads when designed to be used upon tin roofs, or when designed to be used upon wooden roofs-as, for instance, a shingled roof-spikes l1 (shown by 5o dotted lines, Fig. 2) may be substituted.
The operation of my invention will be readily apparent, in that when seated upon an inclined roof it is simply necessary to adjust the lower pair of standards, so as to bring the bucket upon a level and then insert the setscrew 7 into a convenient opening 9.
The above construction may be found adequate vin `nearly all instances; but in cases where extremely steep or greatly inclined roofs are to be painted I may employ a safety- 6o anchor in conjunction with my invention.
Referring particularly to Fig. l, 12 designates a pair of pliers, the jaws of which are locked against separation by a sliding ring 12X, and adapted to clamp the seam 13 of a 65 tin roof or the lightning-rod 0r other objects of other roofs. One of the terminals of the clamp is provided with a link or hook 14, and leading' from the same is a cord 15, the opposite end of which is provided with a hook 16, 7c adapted to engage the lower cross-bar 5. An anchor will in most cases, however, be found unnecessary, and I may or may not employ the same in connection with my invention.
Having described my invention, what l claim is- 1. The combination, with a paint-bucket having opposite pairs of keepers, of standards loosely mounted in said keepers, a bridgepiece connecting the standards, a set-screw 8o passing through the bridge-piece, and a perforated plate located opposite said bridgepiece, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with a paint-bucket having diametrically-opposite pairs of keepers, of standards mounted for vertical move- Inent in the keepers, upper and lower bars connecting the standards,- a central bridgepiece also connecting the standards, a setscrewpassed through the bridge-piece, and a 9o perforated plate secured to the bucket between the pair of standards and opposite the bridge, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT P. FORD.
