UNITED STATES PATENT, OFFICE.
RUFUS J. NO URSE, JR., OF .SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
DIN NEH-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 455,760, dated July 14, 1891.
Application filed December 1889. Serial No. 334,429. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUFUS J. N OURsE. Jr., of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States, have invented a new and useful Iniprovement in Dinner-Boilers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,in explaining its nature.
The object of the invention is to providea dinner-boiler in one casing of peculiar shape and having a central partition and flue which connects with the top of the boiler and extends through it to the bottom. where it opens into the fire-space of the range or stove. I prefer that the boiler be oval in section and that the flue be narrow and extend in line with the partition across the narrow or shorter diameter of the oval space, as by so doing I form compartments or chambers of desirable size and capacity, and to also provide for the flue.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a view in vertical central section of a boiler having the features of my invention. Fig. 2
, is a view in plan thereof, the cover being removed.
The boiler is made integral or in one casting, preferably of iron. It has the shell a, which is preferably oval or oblong in horizontal section. It also has the bottom a" and the partition I) cast with the shell and extending across the shortest diameter of the shell. This partition is separated into two parts, preferably at the center of its width, to form along and narrow oval flue, which is open at its top, and which extends through the bottom of the kettle and is open throughout. This provides a passage from the upper end of the chamber to the fire in the range or stove and affords an exhaust for the steam and cooking odors from the boiler. I also form upon the inside of the boiler three or more lugs (Z for supporting the perforated strainers ordiaphragms (See Fig. 1.) These are also cast integral with the shell of the boiler and partition. The boilermay have any suitable cover and bail.
By making the boiler-shell, its partition, and the flue-casing in one casting a very strongand cheap construction is obtained. By making its shape oval and the flue narrow upon the line of the smallest diameter of the boiler the chambers are given the best shape for use.
' Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- A culinary boiler oval in cross-section and having a partition cast integral therewith and extending across its smallest diameter, said partition terminating just below the top of the boiler and having a flattened passage or flue open at its top and bottom and arranged with its greatest diameter in line with the length of the partition, the said partition and the inside of the boiler having lugs d about midway between the top and bottom of the boiler, combined with a perforated diaphragm cl, supported by said lugs, substantially as set forth.
