Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
O. H. TAYLOR, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPPLOVED WASH-BOARD.
Specification forming pa t ofLettcrs Patent No. 44,677, dated October ll, 1864.
'To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, O. H. TAYLOR, of the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash-Boards for Cleansing Clothes; and I do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view; Fig. 9, a longitudinal section. f
C C in Fig. l represent the curved sides of the frame ot board, and G G G the cross-bars of frame; B, the back of boX for soap; A, the zinc rubber or rubbing surface.
In Fig. 2, D represents the backingboard that the zinc lies on. The other letters refer to the same pai ts as in Fig. 1.
The board is constructed as shown, and operated upon in the ordinary manner.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a wash-board with a curved surface, as shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose of making it easier to wash upon, and also more effective in taking out the dirt, the object of the curve being to prevent the inclination of slipping off the board as you rub down upon its surface, and
also to give the party using it an opportunity I of rubbing harder as they near the lower part of the rubbing-surface without the inclination of slipping oft', and of also regaining their equilibrium much easier as they are gradually brought to a stoppin g-point by the curve, consequently making it a labor-saving board, as will readily be seen.
I am aware that wash-boards are made similar to this with the exception of being curved in the manner herein described. I am also aware that curved and corrugated hand rubbers of Zinc have before been applied to washing-machines. This, therefore, l do not claim; but,
Having thus described my invention, what lI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a separate and complete hand wash-board constructed with a rubbingsurface of corrugatedY zinc, straight at its upper end and concave at the lower end, all as herein represented and described, and for the purposes specified.
San Francisco, J une 28, 1864.
O. H. TAYLOR.
