Description

H. B. ROWLAND.
I TRANSOM LIFTER. No. 443,796.
m Y mu W E A w PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE B. ROVLAND, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO \VILSON & BATES,
OF SAME PLACE.
TRANSOM-LIFTER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 443,796, dated December 30, 1890.
Application filed October 6 1890.
To aZZ whmn, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HORACE B. ROWLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash Lifters, Closers, and Locks, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accom pan yiug drawings.
My invention consists of a novel sash lifter and closer.
It further consists of a novel sash-lock.
It further consists of the combination of parts hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a' sash lifter, closer, and lock embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents avertical section thereof, the sash being closed. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section of the device as applied to a greenhouse, nursery, &c.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the frame, and B a sash pivoted orhinged thereon. To one side of the sash is fastened a bracket 0, having pivotally secured'thereto a projecting segmental arm D, which moves in a guide E, secured to the frame A, and bears against an anti-friction roller F, journaled in said guide. The inner edge of the arm is recessed or cut out at G, so as to form a nose or hooked portion I-I, adapted to engage With an edge or tooth J of the upper cross piece or portion of the guide E, so that the arm may be locked to the guide when the sash is closed.
It will be seen that the sash B, when oper- Serial No. 367,236. (No model.)
ated in either opening or closing the same, is controlled in its movements bythe segmental arm D, which latter passes through the guide E, and as it is pivoted to the sash readily adjusts its position to the movements of the latter. In closing the sash the arm D is let go, and the upward quick movement thereof moves the nose 11 into engagement with the tooth J, thus locking the arm and consequently the sash, and preventing the opening of the sash from Without, or until the outer or free end of the arm is again depressed, and thereby released from or cleared of the tooth J, when the sash may be readily opened by the action of the arm.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A sash lifter and closer consisting of a segmental arm pivoted to the sash, and a guide on the frame having an anti-frictional roller supported thereby, against which said arm bears, said arm freely passing through said guide, substantially as described.
2. A sash lifter, closer, and lock consisting of a segmental arm pivoted'to the sash and having a shoulder thereon, and a guide on the frame, having an anti-frictional roller supported therein against which said arm bears, said shoulder ofthe arm being adapted to engage a portion of said guide to form a lock, substantially as described.
HORACE B. ROlVLAND.
