A. WAVRA. FOOT ATTACHMENT FOR BORING MACHINES.
No. 443,701. Patented Dec. 30, 1890.

FOOT ATTACHMENT FOR BORING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,701, dated December 30, 1890. Application filed June 19, 1890. Serial No. 356,983. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that 1, ANDREW \VAVRA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and usef ullmprovements in Foot-Lever Attachments for Boring-Machines; andl do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The improvements consist of the devices herein described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, for feeding the workholder of a boring-machine table.
In the drawings referred to, Figure 1 represents a front viewof a boring-machine table provided with my improvements, and Fig. 2 a side elevation of the same with certain parts broken away.
Like letters designate like parts in the figures of said drawings, and with reference thereto the apparatus is described as follows:
The letter A designates an upright standard, on which is supported a table-frame B, vertically adj ust-able in grooves A.
E designates a workholding table supported on the table-frame and sliding in horizontal grooves O on said frame. The table E is provided with suitable work-holding clampsas, for example, the hand-levers H and I. A slot G is formed in the back piece F of the table E for the passage of the boring-tool.
K designates a lever-like plate substantially triangular in outline, which is secured at one of its corners to a rock-shaft J, supported in the sides of and near the lower edge of the table-frame B. One of the other corners of the plate is connected with a vertical rod 0, engaged with the rear end of a foot-lever P, while the other of said corners is connected with a horizontal rod L, attached to the sliding work-table E. It will thus be seen that the plate K forms a bell-crank connection between the horizontal rod L and the vertical rod 0, so that when said rod 0 is table-frame.
raised by depressing the foot-lever]? the horizontal rod L will be moved rearwardly and the table fed inwardly toward the boring-tool.
In order that the distance of travel of the work-table may be varied, the rod L is 0011- neoted with the plate K by means of a series of holes S in the plate and a bolt R on the rod to engage said holes. preferably arranged in a line curving upwardly and eccentrically with respect to the axis of the plate, as shown. The object of arranging the holes in the plate in this way is to secure as near parallelism as practicable between the rod L and the directionlof motion of the table E. A coiled spring N is connected with the work-table and table-frame B to retract the former. The tension of said spring may be varied, as desired, by connecting one of its ends with a threaded bolt N, adjustable in a bracket on the bar M on the The rod 0 is composed of two parts sliding upon each other, so that when the table is raised or lowered the length of the rod can be varied accordingly, and it is held in adjusted positions by the clampingbolt 0. Secured to and extending across the under side of the rear of the table-frame is a chute or trough Q, having an inclined bottom to receive the chips or cuttings and conduct them away from the working parts of the machine.
Having thus described an apparatus embodying myimprovements, what I claim, and desire to obtain Letters Patent for, is-
1. The combination, with the table-frame B and the sliding work-table E, of a lever-like plate K, having a series of holes S, pivoted to said table-frame, the rod L, connected at one end with the work-table and its other end adapted to engage any one of the holes S of the plate K, the rod 0, connected with said plate and with a foot-lever P, and the said foot-lever, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination, with the sliding tableframe B and the sliding work-table E, of the lever-like plate K, having a series of holes S, pivoted in said table-frame, the rod L, connected at one end to the work-table and having its other end adapted to engage any one of the holes S in the plate K, the extensible These holes are rod O,eonnected with said plate and with the foot-lever P, and the said foot-lever, siibstantially as shown and described.
The coinbinatiomwiththe tablel'ranu': l; and the sliding work-table E, of the lever-like plate K, provided with a series of holes 3, pivoted in said table-frame, the rod L, eonneeted at one end to the worlc-table E and its other end adapted to engage any one of the holes S of the plate K, means for operating said lever-like plate, and a retracting-spring X, connected with the work-table E and the table-frame 1;, substantially as shown and described.
4. The combination, with the table-frame i3 presence of two witnesses.
and the sliding work-table E, of a lever-like plate K, having a series of holes b, pivoted in said table-frame, the rod L, connected at one endto the work-table E and its other end adapted to engage any one of the holes in the plate K, means for operating said le-Yerlike plate, a retraeting-spri11g i, connected with the work-table E and the table-frame B, and means for varying the tension of said spring, substantially as shown and described.
The combination, with the tal.)le-fran1e B and the sliding work-table E, of a lever-like plate K, having a series of holes S, arranged in a line curving upwardly and eeeentrieally with respect to the axis of the plate pivoted to said table-frame, a rod L, connected at one end with the table and its other end adapted to engage any one of the holes S in said plate, and means for operating the said lever-like plate, substantially as shown and described. 5
In testimony whereof I atiix my signatnrein ANDRIHV \VAVRA.
