No. 443,699. Patented Dec. 30, 1890.
[JE/INJUR- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK IV. SEABURY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DENTAL VU LCANIZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 443,699, dated December 30, 1890.
Application tiled April 25, 1890. Serial No. 349,425. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. SEA BURY, of the city of Providence, county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dental Vulcanizers; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention has reference to an improvement in vulcanizers adapted for dentists use; and it consists in the peculiar` and novel construction of the parts, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved vulcanizer. Fig. 2 is aside view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section, of the same on a line immediately above the flask shown in Fig. 3.
Similar numbers of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, the nu mberG indicates the cylindrical mantle slightly conical, so as to be of greater diameter at the lower than at the upper end. The mantle is supported on the legs 7, thus leaving an open space below the lower edge of the mantle. The upper part of the mantle is provided with the holes S 8. The mantle 6 forms the support of and surrounds the greater part of the oven 9, which oven is constructed to t into the space formed in the mantle to receive the oven and rest on the top of the mantle.
The oven consists of the bottom 10, the portion of which that occupies the central space in the mantle, which when in use is directly over the gas-burner or other source of heat, is made convex on the under side and thicker than the U-shaped sides 11 of the oven shown in the horizontal section in Fig'. et. One side of t-he oven is provided with the door 12, connected by the hinges 13 on one side and by the latch 14 on the opposite side. The opening closed by the door 12 is the full width of the oven. The top of the oven' has the flange 15, projecting beyond the same. The oven is supported by the ange 15, resting on the top of the mantle 6, and by the sides and bottom of the oven, which fit into the space left in the mantle to receive it. The oven is cast in one piece, and to facilitate the molding thereof its width is greater at the door-opening than it is at any other point. The top of the oven is provided with the screws 1G and the thermometer 17. By the peculiar form of the oven, having the flaring tangential sides ending in the semicircular side opposite the door, as is shown in the horizontal section, Fig. 4, and the large door 12, the dental flask 18 can be readily inserted and withdrawn, and can be so accurately placed that the screw or screws by which the upper part of the flask is forced down during the process of heating or vulcauization to accurately form to the mold the material treated will bear on the upper part ,Of the ask uniformly and' in the desired place or places, so as to bear with the required force on the flask. The peculiar form and construction of the mantle and the oven also permit of the construction of a durable and useful dental vulcanizer requiring little machine work or skilled labor.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A dental vulcanizer consistln g of a castmetal oven U-shaped in horizontal section, one side of which is closed by a door and provided with a projecting liange nearits upper end and a mantle surrounding the greater part of the oven and supporting the same, as described.
3. The combination, with the oven 9, U- shaped in horizontal section, the door 12, and the top 15, forming a projecting flange, the top of the oven provided with the screw or screws 1G and thermometer 17, of the mantle 6, formed to receive and partially surround and support the oven, as described.
3. The combination, in adental vulcauizer, of' an oven the top of which is provided with clamping-screws and with a projecting rim, the vertical sides of the oven being semicircular on one side, the two adjoining sides forming straight tangential walls, and the ends of these opposite the semicircular side of the oven forming a lateral opening closed with a door, with a mantle partially surrounding the oven and forming a support for the same, as described.
FREDERICK 1V. SEABURY.
